For future reference, you need to be more specific with the details of your project.....Sure, we could assume that you're trying to do this alt swap on a 460, but why waste time giving info that doesn't apply. I understand that you've probably got a frankensteined engine...but in order for people to give you better help and info, those kind of details are imperative. Not tryin to be a dick, just sayin.....

When I did mine, I could have done the install as not that complicated, but for what they were charging (not much), my time was actually worth more doing something else for a change.
Also, I was heading out on a 1,800 mile round trip w/ a Harley strapped down in the bed, so the added piece of mind of warrantied work was worth it too.
They'll Load test to determine your battery's health, & may or may not suggest a battery upgrade. Mine tested well, so it was not an issue. We sometimes forget when replacing a single component, that it's a part of a system!
Ok so if im reading this right i can take a alternator from a psd and it'll bolt right up to my 91 302 since my alt just sits there and i have a tensioner.

There are at least three styles of 3G alternators, you need to pick the one that matches the style of alternator that you have in your truck right now:
a) if you have a pivot-mount small-frame alt (7" distance between mounting holes) you need an alternator for a mid-late-'90s Ford Taurus with the 3.0 V6 engine.
b) if you have a pivot-mount large-frame alt (8-1/4" distance between mounting holes) you need an alternator for a mid-late-'90s Ford Taurus with the 3.8 V6 engine.
c) if you have the side-mount alternator you need an alt for a '97 PSD.
These are all 130-amp alternators, there are also 95-amp 3G units in existence but they are not what you want even tho they will bolt up if you pick the correct one.
Actually you could get all three styles in a Taurus, so watch out for the correct one - 3.0 engine will have the small-frame alternator, 3.8 engine will have the large-frame alternator, and the 24-valve will have the side mount IIRC. You're looking for mid-'90s and newer Taurus too, like '94-up. Really, print out the pictures from the RJM site, and take them with you when you go for the alternator.
