Hello Everyone, I'm in the process of gathering parts to swap my truck's (signature) 75 amps 2G alternator for a 3G 130 amps. One of the reasons is the dimmed lights when doing a night time stop, the volts gauge going to the low side when everything's on plus the fire risk as well.
My question is: Having a 2G 75 amps alternator could cause the engine when pressing the gas to feel & sound like stalling this usually happens at a stop sign with the AC on
I really think a weak alternator is a stretch to cause that kind of driveability issue, but it is not impossible. Either way, I highly suggest the 3G swap.....
When you do the 3G swap, you have to upgrade the power wire to a 4g wire. I also advise to put another ground in and match it with your power wire. IMO if you have a 4g power wire, you need a 4g ground wire. Just to be on the safe side. But I have heard of people not doing the ground and getting away with it. (I did a 3g conv. on my Mustang and did the ground) And about the idle issue, I have no clue. But you CAN have codes even with the CEL off.

No ground wire needed. The alternator grounds out through its mounting bracket. You need to make sure there is no corrosion in the mounts for the alternator. And the cable size for the power wire depends on the alternators amp rating. If you upgrade to a 130A, you need a 2 gauge power wire.
