Ya I did it that way so I didn't have to make a pocket in the dash extension, I didn't want to cut the bottom notch either . For the column drop I ended up using I had to drill new holes for the mounting because the base was narrower and also had to put a thin sheet metal plate to hide the holes of the previous one I used. All worked out well and now have complete vision of the gauges sitting behind the wheel..
Regarding that shift lever , I need to be able to bend it just above where it starts to taper and wondering if it can be done . I managed to pull the plug from the tube yesterday..
Wondering if I filled the tube with sand before heating it if that would prevent it from buckling ..needs to be bent on that taper..
Anyone have experience doing this. Straight tube I've done, this seems tricky..
Well I braved the torch and gave it the best I could do knowing either way it was no good as is. Ended up with a slight kink but believe I'll be able to live with my fumble..
Just need to glue the plug back in the tube and repaint it..
Well the shift lever is in and seems to be functional..
Cut my door panels out of the ABS sheets today, I thought I was going to paint them a
grey shade to match the seat but I now think I'll just leave them as is..
Rather plain looking the way Ford made them. I have run into a problem with the length of the stem
for the door handle being too short and can't find longer ones like Midfifty used to sell. I had the longer ones for the window cranks.
Not sure what I'm going to do now..
Only ones I can find are stock length short ones and are out of stock. I thought the short ones would have worked and thought Ford only used the one length but now wonder if the Custom cab trucks with the cardboard type panels had longer stems.I have a set of short stems for the window cranks . I put long stems on a set of window cranks when I was thinking of using crank windows in the pickup. I thought I bought long stems for the door handle but if I did they are still in a secret place..
Wife has been searching the web and found the door handle regulators with the long stems so they are ordered, likely won't see them for at least 3 weeks but at least they are coming.
Today I decided to take a go at making the kick panels. Made a simple form out of plywood...
Then using the heat gun after clamping the ABS to the form I proceeded and stretched the plastic but didn't quite stretch it enough.
When making a second attempt I ripped the plastic . The edges of the form should have had the edges softened by rounding them over, first time is the learning curve..
here you can see the tear..
But I managed on the next two attmpts and ended up with a set..
Now if I could only get things straightened out with the idiots that is transporting my glass..
The cake panel turned out really nice. I wonder if I could attempt something like that to bring my seatbelt from the backside of my ABS to the front on my shoulder harness instead of just cutting a hole in it
I don’t know if I can do anything yet about it I was on the phone this morning with a guy from Rod’s doors about the fitment of my passenger side panel and he’s gonna try and work with me and figure something out to get it to fit better. It is very possible that they sent me the wrong panel. He said they do actually have two different templates.
