Poked around a bit and checked a few things, but am curious if any one has more insight.
Map lights do not work at all. Dome light comes on with the headlight switch and with the passenger door ajar. Neither dome, nor cargo lights come on with the driver door open. All connections are clean from the fuse box to the dome, wires are neatly electrical taped. I swapped the passenger door switch to the driver side one with no change. The only thing left that I can think of is the relay with a bunch of electrical tape connecting the wires to it under the dash, above the pedals. Would a bad relay only affect the driver door, or am I missing something?
Did you check continuity of the wires and probe around with a test light?
There is a power lead for the map lights (always hot) and a separate one for the dome light (switched).
Quite often the wires that runs along the drivers threshold gets corroded right about where it starts to go vertical near the drivers seat belt.
If I remember correctly the green wire is usually the culprit.
Here is a wiring diagram for a 93 Bronco but probably very similar to your truck.

Getting constant 12v from the LG/Y wire from this connector by the pedals. Continuity test shows no connection from this point, to the connection behind the seat that goes up to dome/maps. Wires on the floor are all good, no fraying or corrosion.
to my surprise, the break on mine was INSIDE that connection where you have 3 green in and 1 green out.
Sorry for the late reply, but you saved me from cutting into my dash and door frame. That factory splice was indeed completely corroded and the source of the problem. I also appreciate the quick reply on the wire diagram, my airbag control module just blew and I still wouldn't have known if I didn't have the diagram.(I went through at least 10- 10amp fuses) I can now enjoy my 98 mustang dome and map lights without a thought!
Slick LEDs. Now I can find all the freedom I drop.

Hi All. Sorry for digging up and old post but is this splice in the drivers door sill? I am working on my Broncos dome light, it doesn't come on with the drivers door open.
UPDATE - On a 92 Bronco custom the splice is very close to where the seatbelt bolts to the floor. The splice was broken in half so I put it back together and the dome light comes on when the drivers door opens! My parents bought the truck in 98 with 40k miles and they just reminded me it never worked.
