New to me 47 Merc 2 ton

This will arrive in an hour or so after a drive from Vancouver to Innisfail Alberta to find a truck that had a very nice body. Rust was the one thing I wanted to start without and I seem to have found it.
That said the truck has no history and leaves lots of questions. For example it is registered as an M1 but M started in 1948 when Ford started F designations. F1 and M1's were one tons. My hood side trim shows a 2 Ton. So I scratched my head a bit. Then there are the rear leaf springs, all 12 of them in the stack! I would think a 1 Ton didn't have that many.
Anyhow it is not so critical but a puzzle I would like to figure out.

I do have one question.
Is there a thread that deals with technical info and pictures of manual pages and brochures plus pictures of tear downs and rebuilds?

Beautiful truck! But I'm betting the hood side trim, or entire hood, was replaced with a 2 ton's. The single rear wheel would not have been a 2 ton truck. Nonetheless, I'd be proud to have that truck.

I have some 1 ton hood side trim if you are looking.
I think A 47 Merc 1 ton serial would start like 412H47*****
a 2 ton I think would be 450h47 or 430 I'm not 100 sure on the larger ones

Check the serial numbers, Canadian and US used different numbers, a Canadian 1 ton at least in 1949 is a F68 where a US is a F3 or F4. The 3/4 tons were a F47 or M47 and a US was F2 or F3 if i understand correctly. The F1 is a 1/2 ton. If someone wants to correct me if i'm mistaken please feel free.

Oh hub caps is the first thing I need to get.

I have a serial no: 212H4783028 which for some reason tells me this is a ½ ton.
Where is a site that shows what S/N means?
But 12 leafs in a spring says things have been swapped. Or it is a truck made from parts.

From my research 46 and 47 were the only years of this style, from 48 on things changed. 48 is when Ford adopted the "F" designation and in Canada Mercury did the same except ford Canada, aka Mercury, used "M"

There you go I thought it was not a true classic. By that I mean a truck that was in long term ownership and well kept or several serious owners who kept all the records. This is one of those who knows its history trucks and that is ok. If I do some mods or don't keep it really true to the brand its no big deal because it is already far down the road in that direction. In dog terms I have a mutt. LOL It still is a nice looking mutt and it runs pretty smooth. It will do the job I want it to. A classic camper truck. One to take my dirt bike out and tour around. A truck to use and not sit and look good.

All that said where should I look for a S/N on the truck? This one came from the paperwork and finding one was not possible. I did check the bell housing but didn't find one.

I still want Merc hub caps!

Well make sure you get a second opinion, maybe someone else could chime in on the serial to be sure, I'm going by my memory of some trucks we've had.

Thank you for posting some pics of your truck. Here is some info on Canada serial numbers: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...tify-this.html.
There may be others here. Welcome to the FTE!
