plot thickens. I got the new o-ring and nut from Ford the ta-31 they had was expired so I passed on that. Looks like Ill be ordering either the $300 or $75 repair piece. I did not realize the nut was not fully threaded. I assumed it was and thought I stripped half the threads from the nut out. Will need to clean everything real well and inspect when I get home tonight.
The Motor Craft sealant works good. It is used for the rear end covers and intake. As long as you do it right, with nut off, it should work good. Or you can buy the International kit and follow there instructions. Don't know any buddy that has had problems if they start from scratch to do this.
Got it all apart. Nut is warped not flat. . Had to stop and run my helper to the er. He took a tumble and busted his face up pretty good. He will be fine but might loose his top front baby teeth right away. Hoping for a smoother day tomorrow
I assume you are saying that the old nut is warped and not flat like the new nut? At least there is not a Chevy pulling the trailer in the picture this time.
Keep the pictures coming, you know we like them...

yep. Just got back from taking my truck to get oil for her van. Not leaking. Added rtv because it can't hurt and thought it might help it from ever coming loose. My dad put it together. Figured I'd let him since he was offering. Also pictures of my old fuel sleeves I replaced. Big time pucker factor pulling out the dipstick tube with no nut on the flange.

Actually, regular RTV CAN hurt. You should NEVER use anything but the special Motorcraft/International/whatever GREY sealant, such as required for oil pan replacement, when dealing with anything that may put it in contact with motor oil. Even the slightest little bit of "regular" RTV can contaminate the oil and deplete the anti-foaming agents. Foamed oil is bad for the HPOP and injectors.
I would scrape off and completely remove that orange stuff and use the correct OEM grey sealant, even if you can only get the expired tube at the dealer.
