I have searched and read up on the gauges threads on this forum for probably a few hours now. So glow shift is a no-no. You guys recommend automata or aspire. Now Which one is the best. I want something that is very accurate, durable. Price isn't and issue because $1,000.00 in gauges is cheaper than an engine. My buddy has an edge with attitude display that i thought about buying but i prefer the analog with digital displace (like the glow shift) I guess what do you guys mostly run. Id like it to have a warning light when get gets close to a programmable limit, boost to flash above a certain psi, and axle temp to do the same as egt. Any insight would be amazing thank you!
Glow Shifts are nice for the affordable price point. I just installed two in my truck in conjunction with my Edge Insight and they have been working just fine and look pretty good. If you have that much to spend, get Isspros and get as many parameters as you can. I would get EGT, fuel pressure, Boost, and Trans Temp for starters. If you have a manual, get an HPOP instead of the trans temp. Let us know what happens and take pics!!
Trans temp
oil temp
DC% duty cycle
ICP pressures
Pluse width
boost
volts
what gear your in
etc.
i've done a lot of things to my truck, this gauge is by far one of the best things i have bought! it does a ton, on top of whats listed above you can perform buzz tests pull and clear codes, it is a must have for any psd owner who wants to work on there own shint..unless you already have a high end diagnostic tool...
anyhow, good luck to the o.p
I run Autometer GS: Water Temp, Boost, Low Side Oil Press. and then the Edge Insight running EAS EGT, Trans Temp, Engine Oil Temp, Intake Air Temp, and Corrected Vehicle Speed.
I have two glow shift gauges, trans temp and boost. My EGT gauge is a digital cyberdyne unit that seems to be a whole lot better than my previous glowshift EGT gauge. I question the accuracy of the trans temp gauge sometimes and have replaced the sender twice. It's also hard to gauge the actual temp as it has markings in erroneous locations between temp markings (like 150| | |170||| |210||||||230||260).
Besides the aeroforce scan gauge I have a boost gauge, 2 EGT gauges, fuel pressure, oil pressure, coolant temp (scan gauge will not read coolant temp) and coolingmist controller for water injection.
I have the autometer sd factory look alike gauges. They were there when I bought the truck, and that was a year and a half ago, they work great. I have trans temp, boost and Pyro. I've heard the isspro ones are good as well.
So I would assume the AeroForce Interceptor can't read EGT's? Also do you that have this gauge do you have 1 or 2 of them and what is the advantage of having 2?
Mike, I have two EGT's for two reasons. My autometer that I first installed started acting up, only works when it feels like it. I wanted to monitor both sides any way so I put a Isspro EV2 on the passenger side. When the autometer works, they both agree with one another so I'm not going to replace the autometer yet.
The Interceptor can read EGTs with an additional sensor. A sensor you would need (but may be included) with a dedicated EGT gauge.
The Interceptor can read two analog inputs (or sensors). Like EGT and fuel pressure, or diff tempt, etc.
It reads the engine oil, auto trans and intake air temp from the OBD port.
It also reads the MAP sensor for boost but I think digital numbers are harder to follow than an analog boost gauge. An analog boost gauge (in my mind) is a must if you want to watch it.
Here's mine in a SD column pod... It fits OK as is, but I made some minor mods to the pod for additional shifter clearance.
it is a must have for any psd owner who wants to work on there own shint..unless you already have a high end diagnostic tool...
Bryan, may I start a new thread and use your post as the first entry?
I have an AutoEnginuity and the Interceptor. I'm having a hard time justifying my keeping the AE as I've only found one possibly helpful thing it does that the Interceptor doesn't.
I just thought I would add this to a 'gauge' thread. Over the weekend my Isspro fuel pressure gauge quit. I checked all my wiring and did continuity check on them and all was good. I called Isspro and she asked if my sending unit was chrome or brass. I told her brass and she said they were having problems with them and she would send me a new one. One stipulation, I would send in the brass one. I said sure! Love it when you get good service. I had the gauge for all most two years.
