Does anybody have a picture of an F350 brake booster / MC in an F250 or even in an F350 for that matter I guess. I'm considering doing the F350 booster in my F250 Crewcab but not sure i'll like looking at that big of a canister! (booster) Maybe if I see someone's engine bay area, I'll get a better idea of how it's going to look. Thanks!
I believe the booster you are referring to is out of a 78 F350. It is actually smaller in diameter than the oem F250, but is thicker, due to the dual 9" diaphrams, and so sticks further into the engine compartment.Installation requires plumbing new b.lines to p.valve. Most sites for parts houses will have a photo of it too, if you type in year, make, model.
Well, my truck (when it was 2wd) came with it, so I don't know if it is better or not. I do know that even after being lifted with 36s it was easier to stop (less foot pressure) than my 78 crew with the single diaphram. Of course, everything was new (lines, calipers, etc) on that truck whereas the crew is just the original stuff.
Thanks guys for the pics!! That's what i was looking for.
Bucks77 - did your truck originally have the single diaphragm booster? Does the dual diaphragm stop the truck better with the larger tires? I'm considering 35-37" tires on my '78 F250 Crew 4x4 so I'm thinking the dual would be better? what's your thoughts?
I currently have new lines from the MC down to the prop. valve but these were made for the F250 brake booster. I wouldn't have to change these would I since the MC's are the same?

Are you certain the 350 has the same master? Even if so, the lines would have to be modded or changed, because with the dual booster the mstr sits further into the e. compartment.
I would imagine that different years have different issues, but when I ordered a replacement booster and MC, I just went and said "74 F250" to the parts person. There was a few options to select, like engine, 4wd, etc, but to this day, I am convinced that these "F350" boosters were at least optional on the 250s.
As far as the MC, I can't say if there is a difference between the 250 and 350. I just ordered one for a 74 F250 and slapped it on. My feeling is that they are all the same since both the 250 and 350 used dual piston calipers, so the fluid volume requirement would be the same.
I guess when I mentioned there was a difference in mstrs., I was referring to the difference between the mstr. found on f250s before 78, and that found on the 78 f350, which is the popular booster/mstr. upgrade. I am not certain what the difference is, but they clearly have diff. part #'s. Maybe the earlier f250 mstr. will bolt to the 78 f350 booster. I don't know. But for the $30 price of a rebuild, I would stick with the f350 combo that I know works.
Man, I'll never get tired of seeing clean engine bays like that! Excellent! My favorite part. Most people spend time and $ on paint and body and mechanically it runs like a POS, but at least it looks good!
i also have a question on this. since there are differences in the rod length to pedal and stuff, could you just use a booster/master from the same year f-350 with a dual diaphram booster? does it have to be a 78 or 79?
No. You need to go same year. For example, the earlier ones have a straight through push rod, but the later ones have a bracket with a lever arm on the firewall. Not sure of the years, but I ran into this when I was junkyarding for a new booster for my 74. You need to get similar year (maybe even year specific??) when doing this.
