I got a 1977 f250 crewcab 4x4. When I bought it the brakes were a complete mess. Found out that the previous owner had used a f350 brake booster. The previous owner welded a longer rod onto the booster. I bought a 1979 f350 booster and it is 2 Inches too short.. Please help!!! thanks
The new booster end is rounded and curved, where the old booster rod end is straight. For the numerous part numbers you posted, i don't know what they mean. I looked at the rod end of the new booster, and it says f46. For the old, well it's fubar....thanks for your help in advance...
Yes, I've searched the forums about different boosters etc...due to my misfortune, my truck is *******ized....My truck doesn't have the fulcrum linkage at all....Someone welded an extra piece to the old booster making the total length of the rod approximately 10 inches long....The new booster, which is labeled f46 is approximately 8 inches long...Do I need a different pedal, or should I be looking for a fulcrum linkage for a 77? Yes, the one I took out goes directly to the pedal...thanks
I think if I were you I'd make a trip to the junkyard and see if you can find the right year setup for your truck. Buy the fulcrum thingy from them and then order the proper booster/master cylinder.
I don't see why it would be all that different. Then again, my Snowfighter has a 79 F-350 4x4 booster and my crew-cab F-250 had a F-350 2wd booster... O.o
There are definitely a lot of differences. I went through this with my 79CC. I had a 76CC for parts but the booster setup was fairly different, although it didn't have the fulcrum that million was talking about.
I ended up buying a complete setup for an f350 4x4 and it bolted right in.
The early models use a fulcrum point to increase the power to the brakes. Some the petal went straight to the booster. I have mine apart and can take pictures if needed. Mine are off a 74 F100 I think.
