Coolant system maintenance questions

So after finding a small leak, i will be doing some things to my coolant system and am in need of some advice on a few things.

I will be following the procedure i found here.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...ml#post8935201

after reading through the thread above, it seems like the guy has done his homework, so i figured i would go with it.

My plan is this with questions attached:

1. Drain and flush coolant using procedure above
2. Install new 195 degree thermostat
3. Install new Deguass tank
Wheres the cheapest place to buy one?
4. Install coolant filtration kit
Which kit should i go with?
5. Possibly a stock water pump?
Do i need to replace my stock one if i havent had any problems with it? if so, where's the cheapest place to buy this?
6. Replace coolant with ELC

What else should i consider while doing my coolant system maintenance if i missed anything?

How about the around the belt upper coolant hose? its the one for the dual alternator option.

Diesel Site has a good one, and Springer Pop has a link in his signature to building one yourself

If you do, give Clay at Riffraff a call, and replace the thermostat housing as well, you can get the thermostat from him as well.

If you haven't changed the upper and lower hoses for several years or know when they were, it's cheap insurance to replace both, I use Napa.

Hi Clay.

After having a cracked block due to not checking my coolant, I highly recommend you do the maintenance. Any maintenance is better than what I did. I thought I put in lifetime coolant. It was a bunch of BS. Now I am building a new shortblock due to the crack in #8 cylinder.

Do the Maintenance!!!

Gooch definitely knows his stuff. He's The Man when it comes to all things coolant.

Just my opinion, but I'd change it if it were me.

Late last year I was gonna flush the coolant from my F250 and change over to an ELC, keeping the same water pump since I'd had zero problems with it, and I only had 12x,xxx miles one her. I didn't have the extra cash, so I kept putting it off. Well, a couple months ago my stock water pump went south, so I had no choice. But if I'd done the change last year and kept the pump, I'd have wasted a lot of money on ELC because of having to change the pump this year.

Bro, I haven't followed your thread over at FDP so help me out. What do you mean you thought you put in lifetime coolant? What exactly is a bunch of BS?

Evans. According to the Evans site, the NPG+ is supposed to be 500k mile coolant. I ran it for about 120k and ended up with thin walls on #7 and #8 and a nice vertical crack on #8 cylinder wall which allows coolant into the cylinder and oil pan.

And since I did not do Spectrometer tests on the coolant to verify no water intrusion, they will not cover it.

So now I have a new to me block and will be building it up.

And you know this was on FDP because....?????

Sorry, I thought you had a thread over there regarding your block, but I never clicked on it. My mistake.

EDIT: I just checked, it is your thread regarding your engine block, so now you have me confused.

That was the plan. Cornfusion.

Yes, I have a thread on FDP about this.

And I am hoping for more info from FTE.

We have talked before. It has just been a long time.

So what is the cornfusion?

Because when you asked, "And you know this was on FDP because....?????", I took it as to mean you hadn't posted it there, and it was someone else's thread I was thinking of.

It was my thread. I am the man and the only one posting worthwhile info on FDP.

So beyond that, I hope the Cat ELC does better than the Evans....

You didn't even know I posted over there! LOL, so now that you know, you also know you're only the second relevant guy to be posting worthwhile info over there!
