Can anyone tell me the exact connections of the two alligator clips for a remote hand starter so I can install my distributor on a 4.9L? I am so use to the old starter relays and connections, and anything I try does nothing! Car does crank with key, so I know the system is intact...I just need to do all this as a one person job since everyone else I know is too whimpy to work with me outside in the snow! Thanks
are you talking about the starter solenoid on the fire wall, if you are take off that rubber boot and there will be a threaded stud take a wrench or screwdriver and and touch it along with the bigger bolt that comes from the battery. you should just be able to touch the two bigger bolt together like you can on the older ones but that didnt work on my ranger.
Yes I am talking about the starter solenoid, but I have a handheld remote starter so I can crank the ignition over with a trigger switch. I dont recall a rubber boot, there are two posts one that holds + BATTERY cable, the other feeds the harness to the starter. There is one other connection, that is for a diode.
The starter solonoid has three terminals One from the battery one to the starter and the third is from the ignition switch.By Hooking a jumper( your hand held switch) from the third connection , usually a small threaded stud about a 10/32 thread, to the battery plus the engine should crank. In other words Take one lead of your hand held switch and connect it to the small stud, you probably should remove the wire on the stud, and the other to the cable from the battery. Push the button and the engine should crank. Do not do this with the keys in the ignition or the ignition on!!!!!!!
My solenoid is this white plastic item, right next to the battery, sure doesnt look like the solenoid in my 66 or 67 mustangs! Is that the right item? i hate to sound so dumb, I actually restore cars well, but I am lost on these computer controlled things! Thanks
Very funny! Damn, you are good! I can help people like this on the mustang sites, or the datsun z car sites, and am glad you are around. SO many of your posts are right on the money, I can tell intellectually that you are correct in your advice. Ever in NY, I'll buy you a beer gladly...as sooon as I can get my truck to run!
