1975 f-100 air conditioning

i had found a 75 f-100 2 wheel drive with a manual transmission for 250 dollars. the body seems to be in good condition, except for a couple of small rust holes, one on the cab and the second in the right rear corner of the bed. the truck does not run, it's been sitting for 3 years. i looked inside the cab and noticed that it has air conditioning vents in the dash. but there roughly half the side of the dash board vents on my 76. i was wondering if this might had been a dealer or an aftermarket add on. or was the vents on a 75 just that much smaller

Factory air vents are the same size, it's probably aftermarket. Look under the hood at the passenger side firewall. Does it have a big box that takes up most of the available space? If it doesn't then it's aftermarket a/c

i'm thinking it's aftermarket. i had emailed the owner asking about it. How common was the manual transmissions in the old fords? It seemed like most i've seen has been with an automatic

If the firewall on the passenger side is fairly clean except for the blower motor for the heater sticking out then its aftermarket, like I said earlier, if it's factory all available space is pretty much taken up by the evaperator/blower housing.
Manual transmissions pretty common, especially in 4WD.
If your engine compartment looks like this you have FACTORY air.

factory and dealer installed vents are two different sizes. I just completed swapping out the smaller dealer vents for the larger factory vents last night.
The dealer installed is also a much better system. It mounts in the unused space under the dash and does not have that ugly giant box in the engine bay.
the vents were only about a 1/4 inch difference in width though. If yours are much more then that, it's probaly a shade tree mechanic who used what he had laying around.

You can also lay the compressor on its side. It makes the engine bay look a bit nicer.
I only have one pic of my engine bay in my album, but your more then welcome to see the difference between the compressor standing tall, and lying low.

Can anyone help me find where to buy the dealer installed air conditioner? I would like to add one to my '75.

Doubt you'll find any "dealer" units still around but there are aftermarket units still available. Aftermarket Air Conditioning For Automobiles and AC parts Nostalgic Air in Tampa, Fl still makes them

What in the world are you describing? Whatever it is...it's incorrect. If you found an A/C like this in a 1973/79, it was aftermarket "gypo" A/C.

1973/79 F100/350 & 1978/79 Bronco: There were THREE (3) different types of FoMoCo A/C available. Mike has the Ford truck parts catalog on a CD, can scan and post pics from it.

1) Factory installed integral A/C is combined with the heater. The A/C controls are located in the same panel as the heater controls.

2) Deluxe dealer installed A/C is combined with the heater. The 2 A/C switches are located in the HUGE dash bezel that sweeps across the entire right side of the dash, covering up the glove box.

There is a separate "hang-on" glove box that bolts to the bottom of the dash.

3) Economy dealer installed A/C is not combined with the heater. The 2 A/C switches mount into a panel that also contains 2 A/C registers.

This panel fits into the dash to the left of the extant glove box.

Mike: Illustration Section 195 ~ Page 7: Deluxe dealer installed A/C / Page 10: Economy dealer installed A/C.

You've posted these before, could you please post them again.
