Oh Im just going to pick up a old bronco I bought from a relative, this weekend. The rear diff in it is supposedly busted or broken, or non working in some way or another, and was thinking I would like to find one to throw in there.
I got the whole thing for really cheap, and its not a super duper favorite vehicle of mine, but it does run supposedly pretty good and whatnot, so i figure I may try to find a diff for the time being and burn around my farm with it.
I have a 77 parts truck with a 3.00:1 (I think) diff in it, and was just wondering what was common with the broncos so I could start looking a little.
I would most likely find the whole diff, but yeah I could do that too.
Do you know if there are any markings or numbers on the diff anywhere that would identify the ratio, or do you think a guy would have to do the revolution test to figure it out? (not like thats hard lol but im just thinking if its busted and doesnt turn the driveshaft...)
agree, replacing the third member is much easier and faster. in that case you can count the teeth on the old unit you take out. youll want to match it so the front and rear are matched.
Be shure to get the right splines in the axle side gears . 78-79 Broncos had 31 spline axles in them . Not all 9 inch had 31 spline, a lot had 28 spline axles.
