is there any way to id the gear ratio from my vin? 1988 bronco

No. The ratio code is on the vehicle ID sticker on the door jamb under "axle." Post it and someone will decode it for you.

If the tag hasn't disappeared, the ratio is actually stamped on a tag hanging from your diff. You can also jack up the vehicle and check rotation of your driveline and rear wheels to get a ratio estimate. One rotation of your driveline will equal "x" number of turns of your tire. This helps if you didn't buy your vehicle new and think that someone may have swapped the gears.
