I am having a problem with my 4x4 system and I'd like know what I should replace or check. For a while now the right side locks in and comes out on its own. When it locks in I hear a whirring noise like a wheel bearing going bad(already replaced that due to this!). Usually, it's not locked when I first get in the truck but after a while driving(5 - 30 mins) it will lock in. I had the same issue when I first got the truck a year ago and the actuators were replaced. Is this a common problem? Could one be gone already? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks.
EXACTLY the same thing happens with my left front occationally. ...Why I had a truck with manual locks before, no incessant twitchy techno-crap constantly fouling up. It is something to do with the IWE 4x4 system. If you already changed the actuator, read the thread "everything you ever wanted to know about the IWE". Good info, that is not even MENTIONED in the Haynes truck repair manual... so don't buy one of those expecting ANY information relating to the IWE system. It is all electro-vacuum operated.
You will probably want to check your lines, IWE solenoid, and check valves if the actuators have already been replaced. But, there is still a chance that it could be an actuator going again, i had one go 6 months after i replaced it. Read that thread about the IWE system, check some things out on your truck and you should be able to pin point the problem.
