Door Locks

Here is the problem, my truck was a bank repo when I bought it. I guess when it was repoed they broke the door lock on the drivers side to get in and destroyed the lock and the rods inside. I was using the passenger side to get in after locking my doors, now the passenger lock will not unlock with the key so I can't unlock my doors from outside.

I have tried to get new rods at the stealership and they want BIG bucks for them, and I have to buy everything. I have power locks so I got to thinking what if I put remote or key-less door locks on that way I can just push the fob and unlock the locks. I have found many to convert manual locks to power but I already have the activators that push the rods so I don't want to replace them as they work fine.

How would I wire up the remote to my existing system to the new system?

Here is a digram of the system any ideas, I would like to wire this to my system.

I respectfully refer you to post #3, if you are like most of the rest of us you will keep this truck for a long time. IMHO do it right the first time you will appreciate it later.

Are you saying your key wont work in the door any longer? If thats the case and the power locks inside the cab will unlock the doors, you might actually have keyless entry. I bought my truck and did not have the fobs, but there is a procedure of cycling the keys in the owners manual to program locks, when I tried it, the system was waiting for the fobs rf input, so I ordered a couple new fobs, IIRC $15 each, and programmed them? Just a thouht if this was your issue.

the factory wires should be the same as what you need. 1 to lock the other to unlock. i would put a test light on them and check.

I found a procedure to check for wireless, nope don't have factory keyless entry, I was really hoping it would work,

keyless entry

i did not have factory keyless entry. like in the earlyer post, the instaler can wire it to use the fob on the viper remote for your doors. it is cool unit remote start, remote cab temp, keyless entry and so on

Whether you have wireless entry or not your solenoids are wired between the doors to allow the current to flow. When an alarm, remote start w/entry or just a cheap wireless entry is installed it gets spliced into the existing wiring your truck has. So the answer to your question is First you need a aftermarket remote then splice the wires in per the instructions and it will work fine. Like mentioned above I would recommend an alarm which any one worth anything will have remote entry functions. I suggest the viper, which is what I have w/remote start.

Good luck.
