doors lock themselves
doors lock themselves
On my 2001 king ranch 4x4 w/ 5.4 my doors lock on their own I know when you put it in drive and let off the break the doors lock but mine lock again when I hit a bump seems to be worse when its wet. there must be a short somewhere. some times they will lock very fast over and over again. when the truck is off and I close the door it locks about a year ago they were unlocking. I would lock the truck and I would hear it unlock while I was walking away. I guess my locking problem is better than my previous unlocking problem. some times I will hit the unlock button on the remote and it will lock again before I can open the door I have to open it fast then unlock it so I can turn the truck on.
Has anyone had this problem? I have taken the door apart and don't see any wires that are rubbing on the frame. I have tried unhooking the aftermarket alarm, but nothing changes. could it be a bad relay or switch?

I had the same problem with my E-150.
One of your door switches is getting water on the connections and shorting out.
remove the switch on each door and silicone around the connection,or find where the water is getting in at and seal it.

I am still having problems with the door locks. I dont really know where to start.
The constant locking while im driving went away on its own.
now the drivers door will not unlock. at the actuator i am getting power when I push lock but nothing when I push Unlock.
There are two wires going to the actuator. From what I understand, when you are not locking or unlocking the doors both wires are ground or negative. when you push lock one of the two gets positive power from the somewhere and when you push unlock the other wire is positive.
What can do?there are 5 relays in two boxes under the dash close to the headlight sensor. I moved them all around and nothing changed. The Hayne's manuel schematic shows there is a relay for driver door unlock. I just don't have a clue where.
Any ideas?

This may sound strange but, when is the last time you put a new battery in it?
I had a problem with a weak battery, and it would lock and unlock the doors and do all kinds of strange things...lol

I think i found the problem.
The battery is good
the actuator is new the switches are clean
the wires are not broken in the door
I checked the current coming out of the RAP module and got nothing to the drivers door when unlocking and good power when locking.
I took out the RAP module and found part of it was burned up. I just hope it I replace it I don't burn up the next one.
I think it was the aftermarket alarm system someone before me had installed. I have removed the rest of the system I could get to. About a year ago it started acting up and got to the point where I couldn't start the truck so i unplugged the wires from the box and the truck started fine but the driver door hasnt unlocked since then. I hope removing it will prevent the next rap module from burning up.
I took a good picture of it but don't know ow to add it here.
Now my question is; where is the best place to get a new rap module?

Did you find a solution to the problem? I have an 01 Lariat that is doing the same thing and it does not have the aftermarket accessories that you have. Mine seems to act differently depending on the outside temperature.
Yea, I got it fixed. I cut out all the wires I could find from the alarm system that never worked anyway. That may or may not have been the problem.
I replaced the RAP module. that is the brains to the whole system. when I took it apart it had a burned spot on the circuit board. I bought a new one at ford for $190 once I put everything back together it all works good as new.
One helpful tip i might have for you is if you are going to replace the actuator. the easiest way to do it is to brake the plastic arm on the old one so you can get it out. the new one i bought had some tabs so you could take it apart, twist the metal link around inside the door to hook it on the latch then clip the motor back on.
