How do I remove this switch from the dash? I think the plastic **** must unscrew but it doesn't want to move and I'm worried about breaking it.

My truck is also missing the dash dimmer switch. Where would be located on the dash? Does it screw onto the lower edge of the dash?

I haven't taken mine apart yet, but it looks like the whole 'rod' part turns or pulls off?
My dimmer switch (42) is on the floor. I don't have a dash one...

The dimmer switch I'm talking about is for the instrument panel light. My operator's manual is misleading because the instrument panel referred to in the operator's manual is really the dash. In fact, looking at the wiring diagram it may only be an off/on switch for the two instrument lights within the instrument cluster. My operator's manual mentions " an instrument panel lamp switch located on the bottom flange of the instrument panel below the instrument group. The head lamp switch must be on in order to turn the instrument panel lamps on."
I have two small holes under the lower edge of the dash, about 2 in. apart, below the instrument group (cluster) but it looks like they've never been used. Now I think about it, the switch is probably redundant anyway unless it's a dimmer type.

Ah... I honestly don't think mine has it. maybe someone else in here can help on that one.
Mine is a commercial dump truck so there are so custom things on it (very unusual wiring and odd ***** and random wires) and then in other areas it's very very stock. There are no interior lights... dash or otherwise...lol.
Do you have any pictures of yours? I'd love to see it.
Got the switch out, Alicia! Took a while, and I don't know why they don't write this stuff up in things like maintenance or operating manuals.
It's like a key: push the **** in and twist (either way) thru 90 deg. and it'll pull out. Kinda like a key in a lock.
I didn't figure it out till I cut the small brass retaining plate on the switch under the dash that held everything together. Very hard to see under the dash , even with everything else removed!
I'm also looking for an illustrated parts catalogue that shows me how the cab sits on the frame. You seem to be a bit of a guru, Alicia. Any suggestions?
Okay Alicia - I looked further at the switch. What I wrote earlier isn't quite correct. There's a brass plate tab on the switch body that locks the shaft in place. It prevents the **** from being twisted 90 deg. The tab must be held back against the switch body to disengage it from the shoulder at the end of the **** shaft. Pushing the **** doesn't help.
This operation can only be done from under the dash - a very difficult and awkward place to get to.

I have four bolts on each side holding the cab to the frame. I don't think it's any more complex than that, but I could be wrong. I don't have a floor, so I don't know if there are any more bolts. I can take pics if you want. It should be similar, same cabs lol. I searched a bit and couldn't find a diagram for you. I'll keep looking tho.

Ouch. I'm sure I'll get there. I'm still in the tear down. Spent a bit here and there for little things, but haven't wracked up the big bills yet...lol.
