Fenders and fenders

Just picked up a '49 F2. What are my options for front and rear fender repair/replacement? Both driver's side need some work. Just wanted to ask the experianced crowd what they would suggest. Thank you.

Post some pictures to let us see what you've got fix. I'm sure that you will get some constructive responses. Also how are you equipped are far as tools go, welder, body hammers and dollies etc........

Anything can be saved, it's just a question of if it's worth the effort and time. If it drops quarter sized chunks of rust when you touch it, it might not be worth the effort to fix, but if it's just got dents, thats an easy fix...crumpled is a little harder, ha.

LOL!

Take it from a guy that has one - they were ALL beat to hell on the farm. NO panels are straight!

You can use F1 upper fenders, but you need to keep the original lower front fenders, and ALL the parts of the bed (including the rear fenders) & running boards are unique to the F2 & F3.

Good luck, man!

F2-F3 trucks have their own specific front fenders, beds, rear fenders and running boards.

You cannot use an F1 upper fender with an F2-F3 lower fender and vice-versa as the wheel opening is larger on the F2 than on the F1. Same goes for the rear fenders, plus F2-F3 rear fenders have a deeper cut in the profile of the fender to accomodate for the wider bed.

I stand corrected!

I totally thought all this time that the upper fenders were the same!

So there you go, man - you can use the cab, and that's about it! LOL!

I got my F2, wanting a truck that had good aftermarket support with regards to repro parts, etc - no vehicle I've ever owned ever has stuff I could just "order" out of a catalog for 'em, and this was supposed to be easy. After seeing all the stuff out there for the F1, I went for it! It was only afterwards when I found the info on BonusBuilt.com that I realized I was in the same boat I'd been on every other car I've had!

The rear fenders on F2+ are also not as wide as F1 fenders (maybe that's what Ilya said). The reason is because the F1 used the Pick-up box and the F2+ used the Express box which was wider than the Pick-up box. Then in order to maintain the same position over the top of the wheel, it had to be more narrow on trucks with the Express box.

Your 48-50 F2 fenders pop up on e-bay all the time. They aren't that hard to get. The rears a little less often. It's the 51/52 F1 front fenders that are hard to find in any kind of shape.

Also there are a couple companies that make front and rear fiberglass fenders for your truck.

Edit note: Bob and I were typing at the same time. I looked at your site Bob - very nice!

Didn't realize you had a web site Bob, could you add a link to it here? You're an interesting guy and might find it to be interesting as most of your posts on here are.

There's a set on eBay now. As well as a set of 48-50 F1 fiberglass front fenders.

Those look pretty good - unusual find. It took me three years to find an installable set of 51/52 F1 front fenders! There's also a 48-50 right front on there now.

Wonder who they belong to
