Taligate handle release assembly

92 Bronco. On the tailgate handle release assembly there is a rod that runs from it to the bottom of the tailgate. The rod is apparently anchored at the bottom and does not move. Where does it attach to the handle release assembly and what does it do? Or does it attach somewhere other than the assembly? Does anyone know the rod I am referring to? Thanks.

Thumbs up

Sounds like what I would call the "tailgate window safety rod" or something like that. I don't know what Ford calls it. It should connect on the latch/handle mechanism to a lever that blocks the handle from moving when the window isn't all the way down. Look for a lever that is pointed at the left (driver's) side of the tailgate when you have the tailgate down. I used a mirror to see in there just last week when I was connecting it all back up. There should be a plastic snap on thing that will hold the rod end in the lever. When the window is rolled down, it contacts the rod and moves it down and that swings the lever out of the way of the latch so you can pull the handle and open the tailgate.

Hope this helps!
