Best sub(s)to use?

I am looking to purchase new sub(s) for my truck but can't decide which ones. Right now I am running 1 Soundstream Rubicon 12 getting about 160W rms in a 2.3 cuft ported box (28hz). I am impressed by the output(130.4db legal) but the sound qaulity just isn't there. The two scenarios I am considering now are either 2 JLAudio 12W0's, or 1 12W3. I would like to stay within about $400 can. and will probably run another ported box. What do you think, any suggestions, Tonka, anyone. :-)

Best sub(s)to use?

Hi
I really like my Cerwin Vega Accurate Image 12'. Some people love Vega's some hate them. I have had a few now and I've never had any complaints. My way of thinking is that all Vega makes is speakers ,not amps or decks, just speakers and they have been around forever so obviously they are doing something right. Output is 250 watts rms and only .86 of a cubic foot in a sealed box and a total of 3 cubic feat in a bandpass (preferred method but is tuned very low). Also available in single or dual voice coil for different wiring situations. As for price it is hard to say , probably fairly dependant on were you live.

Best bet for sound quality is a rockford or JL sub, but if you want SPL (db's) hit yourself up for a set of Shockers, or go for a 15" mouse

if you are looking for better sound quality i would recomend a sealed box because it will improve the sound quality with the sub you have. i will have to admit that a sealed enclouser will not but out as much bass but the sound will be better. as for subs JLW3's rock. but if your looking for Sound quality i would recomend 2-12's in a sealed box

For the best sound, I recommend you buy 2 infinity "perfect" subs, in 10" or 12". It seems like no matter if I throw too little power at them, or too much, they never distort. Also they look very cool

Good Luck

Hello
Depends on the application and you can tune the sub by changing the dimensions of the port.

JL Audio W3's are the ones you want to run, 2 12's will be perfect. I work at a car audio place, we sell them for $199 each. you do not need to give them much power to run either. i have my 2 hooked up to a rockford 225.2 amp running stereo. i hit 143db's and they still sound like the bomb

I use 3 JL audio 8w3's because i like a) being different
and b) the fact that they are so tight
i am powering them off of the rear channels of a 600a4.
they sound great, and fit really well
my brother works at a car audion place as well

Im gonna have to go with tonka on this one. Cerwin Vega kicks major butt. My friend just got 15 and it has all the punch to knock the wind out of you but it still has nice roll off that I like. Im sure the 10's and 12's pound about the same. The 15 takes a 3.5 cu. ft. ported box but the smaller subs take slightly smaller boxes. I dont know how much room you have to work with but get a Cerwin and feed it the power and you wont be sorry. Just my opinion

Use the Kicker Sl7 solo-barric. I have 2 in my truck hooked up to two Alpine amps that put out 1500watts each, these thing will take anything you can dish out. for 400 dollars you can get 1, and that is all you need, plus they look cool because they're square and get the grills.

I'd agree with you on the Jl's. I've tried quite a few others, but buck for buck I thnk yo uare getting a better product with the JL's, I'd go for two subs ~ I have one ten being pushed by a 240W PPI amp and it's plenty for me, but if I had it to do over again, I think I'd shoot for two 8's. If you are interested in it there is a spin off company that is making a box just like the JL Stealth box for f150 and f150 x-cab and they are a fraction of the price. The JL one runs like 500 bucks, but this one is lke 150 unloaded. I know Hi-Fi Buys carries them in Nashville, Tennessee. I don't have the number handy, but e-mail me if you need it.

Thanks,
Brad

i like the rockford fosgates personally. They're powerful and have a nice design. Go to e-bay and you can get 12" he2 dvcs for 99 a piece or 12" hx2 dvcs for 115. The he2s are 400 rms/800 peak and the hx2s are 500 rms/1000 peak.

i personally believe that Digital Designs is one of the best SQ subs around, not to mention SPL. the 9515 was originally meant to be a studio speaker, but built massive tough to withstand extreme power in such situations. unbelievable how loud and clean one 15 can be. you can have mine for $400 shipped to you.
