Can you please help. I just hooked up my kenwood stereo to my explorer. Although it is getting power, there is no sound coming from the speakers. I have a premium factory sound system and need to know if I have to bypass my factory amp. Can you help???
To the guy that asked me about the two 8's versus 1 10". I now have 2 8's instead of one 10". I got a under seat sub box from advantage, they are a side company that is owned by JL audio. Great quality stuff. The box was only like 120 and it houses 2 8" speakers that you can purchase seperatly or get loaded. (you'll save a little money by buying them seperatly). The 10" JL sub gave me much lower bass but I paid all this extra money for an extended cab and nobody could sit back there. The 2 8" fit nicely under the seat and for the first time people can sit back there almost confortably! I noticed a small dip in performance with the 2 8's but I expected that when I purchased them. I never really wanted a system that you could hear around the block anyways, REMEMBER, loud audio doesn't mean GOOD audio.
Rockford fosgate is defnately the bes subs. Speaking from experiance, you get what you pay for. I've seen people run 1 hx2 12 that hits awesome. 2 he2 or he 12's or 10's would hit great too. I have 2 hx2 8's and i get complimentsevery day.
If your concerned w/ sound quality, don't use ported boxes. Its a misconception that it will hit harder, its only deeper but it won't be clean. ported can also blow out easier.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 09-Mar-02 AT 00:48 AM (EST)]HAHAHA! If your lookin for SPL Compotition Subwoofers, i've got a sub for u!! It's the new 15" MTX RFL152 out by MTX audio..here's the link: <http://www.mtxaudio.com/caraudio/products/subwoofers/RFL.cfm > It's got a 4,000 watt peak, with handling of up to 2,000 watts. It weighs in at a whooping 56 pounds!! It's not the best in minimal sound quality, but if u want bass, this is it!!!!!!!!!! It's gonna run u about $999! Dang, it's held on with bolts(not rivets) for gosh sakes!
Image dynamics IDMAX will rock your MTX check the specs.
I am running a
Sony c9100 HU
Sony CDX-T68X Changer
Cadence CEQ600 EQ
Lanzar Optidrive plus 200 (old school circa 1993)
Rockford Fosgate 800a4
6.5 Boston Acoustics Components in door
6.5 Boston Acoustics Components in rear
5.25 Cadence mid bass in front door
5.25 cadence mid bass in rear
2 jl audio 10w6 in a sealed enclosure in rear
Its all in a 1991 Ford Bronco Silver Anniversary edition.
hmmm... the Image Dynamics specs are not impressive. Adire Audio's Brahma subs will toast your MTX, JLs, Fosgates, Diamond MacDaddy and almost anything else. They have lower distortion, higher xmax and better linearity. Check out the T/S parameters.
I'm also running their Shiva sub, although it's in my home. Not as much of a monster, but I get almost 118db at 22Hz using a single driver with a 15" passive.
BTW, to whomever posted earlier that ported boxes don't sound good -- ported boxes, when tuned correctly, will give great sound and a higher SPL than a sealed enclosure. The same goes for passive radiators, even though PRs are easier to tune.
i have to say Infinitys are the best, but i am partial to audioban subs also, both are great quality. if ur looking at the Infinitys, try the kappa series, i have 2 and they sound great, low, deep clear bass.
my friend has the RFL, it sounds terrible, i wouldnt recommend it, its loud, but has no sound quality AT ALL!! sounds like someone hammering on somthing!

eclipse makes the best everything, from the eclipse mule amp 1200 watts, clear clear bass, from the titanium subwoofers that come in an 18, loudest speaker ever, (in terms of not sacrificing clarity for rumble) i run 2 15's eclipse, eclipse mule, memphis highs in back and front and premier deck , eclipse amps for highs that roughly puts out a 100 watts to each high in a supercab 95 f150 xlt, they are just as loud as the solobarics but they are alot more clear and the bass travels farther. i have the best system in my town besides this rich guy with 8 jl 15's with 1200 watts to his highs and god knows what to his subs, its in a brand new excursion with 40 inch tires. i fell out of his truck i was hanging on the door and he turned it on thank god i landed in a grass
the RFL's are made for short blasts of low frequency bass not normal everyday listening my stereo consists of a Clarion headset MTX 6500 mono block class D amp (500 rms 775 peak) MB quartz 6.5 in the doors and 2 12" MTX 6000 subs in a sealed box in the back I hit 136.4 DB in the last comp so i would say go with MTX i sure like them
