anyone have some pictures or a good description of radio removal in this truck? have not had much luck any other time i've tried to remove a stock stereo.
You can pick up a set of Ford Radio Removal tools dirt cheap from parts stores, audio shops and even places like Walmart. Definately worth having them around.
I had a bit of a struggle when I removed mine, even using the "keys" from Napa. Turns out the trick is that you push outward (toward the doors) with the keys once they're locked into place, and that releases the spring clips. Once I had the radio out, it was very clear how they worked, but of course by then it didn't matter.
It should come out pretty easily, if you have to force it there's something wrong.
*I've also heard (but never tried) that you can remove the radio and the center dash bezel as one unit. To remove the bezel, there are two (or three?) screws above the climate control *****, and then the whole thing pops off with clips around the edges. Again, not too much force or it will break, it's just plastic.
My radio was borken on the one side, and the key wouldn't work. good luck with it. it may be easier to pop the trim bezel off and pull it forward so you can see how things are working back there.
When I took my radio out there was jus two 7 or 8 mm screws right about the climate control *****. Try that first, we messed up my buddy's focus's radio using the keys, so be careful!!!
You can use the Ford Radio Removal Keys if you want to but personally I use a coat hanger bent into the shape of a "U". Like hte others said though, be careful. You should never have to force anything, if It doesnt slide out move the keys around and try again. Worst case scenario, pop off the trim plate and see whats going on back there as another member put it.
