'71 f250 dash speaker removal

Hey i need some help on replacing the speaker on my 1971 f250 custom. It is the speaker in the dash behind the radio and between the defrost vents. Yesterday i took the glove box out checked all the wiring behind the radio and gave the radio a new intenia. And the radio still cant be heard over the engine. Or anything for that matter.

I have 2 new speakers both of witch work so i want to see any setups that anyone had with 1 or more speakers in the dash. How is the old speaker removed with ease? And is there anyway i can easily make a wooden mount on the headliner to hang a second AM/FM radio from?

Thanks for any help guys!!!

The speaker will come out, but you might have to pull the radio to get it out that hole. Been 20 yrs since I dealt with the factory dash speaker. It might come out through the glovebox hole? Should be just a couple small bolts holding it up.

They make headliners with built in speakers, not sure if they have spot for radio too?

I was able to adapt a late model style slide in radio into my '67 radio hole. I bent the tabs in and used a universal slide mount and was able to attach it to the dash. It actually fit pretty well and looked good.

haven't done mine yet but looked at it radio has to come out , then just a couple bolts .
trace the speaker shape onto some thin plywood 1/8-1/16 thick then get some 3" speakers . or by the kit from lmc .

mike is correct, you have to take out the radio to get the speaker out. i just installed A Pioneer radio and just threw away the old speaker and temporarily put a 4'' in the glove box for now till i upgrade my alt which i have now. and take some measurments to see if i wanna go 6X9 or 6.5 speakers

How is the radio removed? I have puled the the dials, bolts, cover, and the bolt under the radio. I can push the radio back just far enough to where it hits somethin back in the dash. Where does the radio come out from? Glove box? Behind the guages? I anyone has some pictures or even a video that would be great. Thanks.

Also ive researched one of them fancy headliners with speakers but seeing as it needs visual work a whole new sterio setup is on the bottom of my list.
