My Bronco with 351W has just stock exhaust. I would like dual split rear exhaust, not really loud but with a nice tone. So I was thinking that I would find one of those setups I can order, and then do the work myself. I have access to a nice lift and torch and welder and everything at work, and I'm pretty mechanically inclined. I, however, realize a problem shortly after I look for this kind of setup...nobody seems to make a split rear exit exhaust system for a Bronco. Has anybody run across this? Do you just have it custom equipped? If so, what kind of setup do you have? What does it sound like? I'm open for any opinions or suggestions. If it means anything, it has dual cats. I don't want to spend a million bucks or anything, but i mean hey, the tailpipe is rusting away anyway (i'm in wisconsin). So, thank you for any input, have a great day!!!
From my research no one offers a bolt on kit for duals for the Bronco. If you do a bit of research on here you will find some that have had it done and it does require a bit of work, also remember do not run them out the back, exit them at the rear of the back wheels so that you don't pull exhaust back into the Bronco with the rear window open.
just a suggestion to add. If you do any type of off-roading at all, tips exiting out the rear will be crunched in no time. That back bumper of our broncos hangs pretty far out past the rear axle and tends to scrape the ground pretty easily so be careful while climbing hills if you do this mod. Good luck.
When I had my '87 F-150 (same type setup), I found that Hooker made a dual exhaust setup that exited behind the rear wheels. It was completely bolt on, but you needed full-length headers. I bought the kit, and it installed quite easily, and sounded nice when I was done. The kit didn't include mufflers, so you were able to choose what you wanted for name or sound. I too would run them out the side instead of the rear.
Well I just ordered from Jegs the complete Walker DYNOmax package for the 302 in my 94. I already have the DYNomax crema coat headers ($229), and I just ordered the pipe kit for the headers ($99), Super Tubo mufflers ($31 each), and reducers with the 02 fitting ($31). Less than $500 for a full system doing it myself. They told me that they exit behind the rear wheels, and I doubt for that price they would do anything to fancy do I'm guessing they both exit passangers side.
I'll let you know they are suppose to be here monday. Gonna start the headers Sunday since I'll be at the races Saturday
let us (me) know how you like the headers. I have a set of ??? who knows on mine and you can hardly get your hand in the engine compartment when it's running, it gets so hot in there. I was trying to check trans fluid level and thought I was going to burn my hand off.
Well I don't know about the heat factor yet but they fit real well. Were yours just painted headers? I have run headers on plenty of cars in the past and they do increase the under hood heat. The ones I bought were the cerma coat form DynoMAX. They are suppose to help with the heat, as well as last longer. The instllation was pretty easy. The passanger side went right in, and I only had to unhook the front drive shaft to make room to get up the driver side. The worst part was getting all the old out. The only worry I have now is if the O2 sensor will stay hot enuff. Its moved along way. I got to add about 12" of wire.
I had dual split rear corner exhaust, and like other guy said... the pretty 4" tips that came on the truck when i bought it get hung on trees and bend the pipe or get crunched pretty easily...just recently i tore all that crap out behind the muffler... but since i have to pass inspection i had a muffler shop put a nice pipe going out before the passengers rear wheel, looks nice sound, sounds good too. I have a glass pack on it, and so i've heard the smaller the muffler length the louder it will be, just dont gut it if you want to hear yourself think -rem
Got the Walker kit today. Both pipes exit behind the passengers side tire. According to the instructions the are stacked, but I have not got that far.
The kit is not that well setup for the Shorter wheel base of a Bronco, but I'll make it work. I will probably have to get one pipe rebent. The drivers side pipe goes under the tranny to get to the pass side. No big deal for most, but mine has an E40D tranny that has the bump in the pan for the magnet. You get one guess right where the pipe wants to cross over at.
Oh well at least I got a good pattern to take with me now.
Well I gave up on the kit. the farther I got into the worse things got. However there is a good reason for it. Jegs listed it for a 80-95 F-150 and Bronco. I got ahold of Walker and they told me it would only fit a 80-88 F150! Holy crap just alittle differance there
Just a suggestion in lieu of true dual exhaust. I opted for a really well designed 3" single exhaust from Bassani. I know their forte is street type exhaust but I got their ceramic short headers (which will bolt to the stock Y-pipe if you want) their Y-pipe which is the only aftermarket Y-pipe I know of thats made for the Bronco or F150 and its completely stainless. The remaining cat-back is also Bassani's Street Thunder including a fully-welded-on-every-seam stainless muffler. The O2 sensor mounts in the exact same location and the 3.5" tip exits in the stock location. The only thing I had to do was rotate the tailpipedown just a bit becasue my 4" lift rear springs rubbed it slightly due to the oversize pipe. The best part of the whole thing is it took one afternoon and cost just over $1100. Considering the time and aggravation you seem to have invested so far, it may be a viable option. The sound is really nice and the best part....all stainless, I won't have to mess with exhaust for a very very long time.
Hello,
I was wondering about that kit you mentioned. Did you buy the Dynomx kit #289-89016 out of Jegs that is suposed to be for 80-95 Ford pickup and Bronco? I am wondering about that kit. I have an '82 Bronco. If you could email me at joshwhite17(No Email Addresses In Posts!) I would appreciate it. Thanks,
