'59 F100 - Wiring harness - recommendations/opinions

Hi all,

I am to the point where I need to replace my harness, stem to stern. Any and all recommendations on a vendor, what to do, what to avoid are appreciated.

Thanks,

Greg

#1, from what i have read, stay away from painless wiring. seems the name doesnt mean a thing.
#2, is it a stock electrical system? if so, and you are handy, you should be able to build your own with a wiring diagram.
#3, if it is not stock, well, you can either build it or buy one. either way you will have to do some modification for yor specific add ons.
i would post in the electrical forum and see what pops up.
good luck.

I also red this talk about Painless in this forum. Looking at what they offer I am unsure to believe all this. Anyway, there's many US sources for this stuff and they all have web sites. I am still unsure if I should buy the full kit ($200-400) or just buy a fuse block ($90-100) and do the rest myself. However, I will decide soon and if asked today I would go with a full kit.

That's what I have on hand, but there's more.

Greetings from Germany !

Re: your wiring harness.

I just rewired a friend of mine's 57 Chevy/Napco 4X4 restoration. (I know its a FORD site, but this happens to be applicable

Anyway, he got all his harnesses from a place called M&H down in Santa Ana, California. I didn't get a phone number or anything because I didn't realze I'd be passing on this info.

Pretty impressive. They do a neat job, great diagrams, ORIGINAL colors, and you can buy just the portions that you need - under dash, underhood, etc. A potential nightmare was done in a couple of hours....

Hope this helps

in regards to your question i know what i have dealt with and it all depends on your personal choice. my choice 6 years ago was a painless 12 cicuit fuse block i didnt put it in until about three years ago and everything was easy with the exception of the steering column being a die hard blue oval guy i had installed a mid 80's grand marquis tilt column there was not a diagram for a ford column in the kit everything referenced chevy when i tried their online tech support i felt like i was being given the run around by the village idiot after about 6 emails and four days i gave up and decided to figure it out myself i went to the public library and found a wiring diagram very similiar to what i had and i sat down with a multimeter and figured out what each wire goes to in the column and were to hook it into on the fuse block. other than the village idiot at online tech support it wasnt to bad but once again its personal choice and how good you are with schematics and using a multimeter and of course how much of a tight wad you are lol hope this helps

gee ooh

I was the guy that was slagging Painless recently, but the bottom line is that next to Ron Francis, their product is very good; especially their documentation, which has improved greatly with time.
It is important to study their catalogue to ensure that you buy everything you need-the universal kits are somewhat "bare bones". You should consider a headlight relay kit to deload the switch and fuse panel. You must also run your electric fan with a relay. You will find they support Ford columns better now with the right connectors and proper info. Ron Francis is at www.wire-works.com They can supply exactly what you need, but they are not cheap. Would a stock replacement harness suit you? There are sources for this too. I recently rewired my 54 from scratch with no trouble. Let me know if you need help.

Todd.

Jeez - I love this board!!!

My '59 F100 Stepside is a pure stock truck so I should be able to go to the "big names" posted in this thread and get a kit that will drop in.

I did a '53 ****** a couple of years ago with an after market kit and as one of the previous posts indicates, it only took a couple of hours.

Based on the replies, I am expecting this truck to go easily as well.

Thanks to all!!

Greg

I got a 59 ford that i am restoring and I just went with a stock harness that I got a scramento vintage. If you need to put a fuse box in its pretty easy and they will help you if you give them a call.
