F1 Window anti rattle fuzzies install
The very first step was to get the glass as far down as possible. Merely winding the window all the way down still left glass in my way, so I pulled the hair clips, swung out the arms and dropped the glass another fraction of an inch (it made a big difference).
Next was dealing with the clips. The clips come with a wide spread in their jaws which has to be crushed onto the fuzzy strips in exactly the right spot (which is very hard to determine as the corresponding holes in the door are halfway hidden). I took each clip and set it into a socket from my ¼ inch drive set (the clips fit perfectly):
I then set the combination into an arbour press and tightened up the jaws enough that I could just barely slide the clips onto the fuzzy strip from the end (you could use a vise but an arbour press is far easier to use):
I then slid them roughly into position to match the holes in the door:
Next I placed the fuzzy strip into the door. Minor adjustments were made to match the clips to the holes (remember that I squeezed them tight enough that they could just be moved along the fuzzy strip) and the clips were snapped into the holes using a brake spoon (perfect tool for the job). It took a firm push to get them into place. A number of times they popped out as I had not pushed hard enough with the brake spoon to get them to seat properly. And to be clear, those clips are crappy compared to the originals.
A couple of times the window glass was in the way (despite the window being dropped as much as possible), so I made a wooden wedge that could be pushed in to create more space for me to slip the brake spoon in between the glass and the clip:
The end result:
An option at this point would be to mark the exact location of those clips (don't use a black sharpie, it blends in with the black fuzzy material and can't be seen!) and then pop out the strips and give the clips an extra squish to set them harder in place.
After I finally figured out a way that worked for me, I was able to do the final door in about 20 minutes. This is good as I will be doing this again on my kid’s F68 sometime in the next year.
