Brake problems
Hi everyone, looking for help on brakes. This is my moms truck and she is not sure on some of this. 1998 ford ranger extended cab, 4x4 3.0 with RABS. She took it in to a repair shop to have her brakes checked after it set for a long period. Was informed it needed all new brakes. They replaced front rotors, calipers, pads and rear drums, wheel cylinder, shoes and mounting hardware. After bleeding the lines they couldn't get brakes to work. I now have truck and have rechecked for new parts and all was replaced as stated. I have bleed the lines and have good flow with no air in lines. That is without the truck running. As soon as I start it up and try the brakes the pedal goes all the way to the floor and will not pump up. I'm sure this has been discussed before but can't find a thread. Any help would be great. Brake pedal to the floor is often a bad master cylinder (MC). It's not uncommon for the seals in the MC to get damaged during the bleeding process after sitting for a while because the MC bore gets corroded where the seals don't normally contact. Pumping the pedal runs the seal over that corrosion.
I've also read that the ABS unit can cause a similar problem on 4 wheel ABS. I'm not familiar with RABS though. I'd start at the MC. Check the back of the MC also for leakage if you take it off to see if it leaked in to your booster. Good luck.
