Brakes

I have a 79 f150 ranger and the brakes are so crappy that if i were having to stop in hurry i wouldnt be able to. Ive bled the brakes and also checked for leaks in the lines. all four brakes have been rebuilt. I also have a new booster. Would having the truck running help when i bleed it.

I'm assuming you've already turned the drums and rotors and put new pads and shoes on?

What exactly was done to 'rebuild' all four brakes? - new pads/shoes, new rotors/drums, new calipers/wheel cylinders, new hoses?

Did the brakes feel mushy before you did this work?

How did you bleed them? Start with the farthest wheel from the master cyl and work your way closer - R rear, L rear, R front, L front. Have a friend pump the pedal several times then hold down while you loosen bleeder to release air/fluid and tighten bleeder BEFORE he lets off the pedal. Do this 4-5 times per wheel. Be sure not to run out of fluid in the master, or you will have to start all over. No need to have the engine running.

Are the rears adjusted so you can hear them rub the drum as you turn it? This is very important.

Ditto on 73Custom's statement.

This is always the first thing to check if you have established there are no hydraulic leaks.

Did you pull the pin on the proportioning valve to bleed the front ,just like it states you have to do this, in the Ford shop manual ?

Mushy pedal usually equals air in the lines. You might check for rubber lines that are ballooning.

Do you have a lot of pedal travel with a spongy feel?

Or decent pedal, but spongy?
