When I first bought the truck a few years back...I used the 5W-20 oil as it states on the oil cap. It's a 2012 F250 GAS engine.
Then, I got hold of a Release put out by Ford that stated the 6.2 could also be run with 5W-30. I've lost that document and can't find it anywhere.
I know that they released something similar in regards to the 2016's...but I am certain that the document I had involved the 2012 as well.
Does anyone know what document I'm talking about and where I could find it?
The first time I ever had it serviced by my local shop (not the dealer), they had done an oil change using 5W-30 and I was aghast!
When I got it home, I drained it all out and put the spec 5W-20 in...then about 6 months later I came across the Oil Chart (like above) but going back to the 2011, that stated that the 6.2 engine for the F150-350 could be serviced with 5W-30. I wish I still had that document for my own peace-of-mind!
5W30 is the oil spec for the 6.2L. They had a 5W20 for one or two model years but it was moved up 5W30. 5W30 is like the universal engine oil type. I am pretty sure I have always been on 5w30 for all my oil changes. Once thing I would have to check is to see if I got 5w20 on an odd occasion. I know a couple of times I had dealer oil changes when on the road and one service advisor asked if I towed often and I said just recreationally. He said I could go up to 5W40 if I was towing regularly. It was smaller dealer in upstate NY about 5 years ago. I got my oil change done and back to camp for breakfast.
