Adjustable pedal question

Has anybody had to work on these adjustable pedals in their truck? I just got one and the pedals are uneven and just downright irritating. I figured out that if I can disconnect one end of the drive cable that goes between the two pedals then I can adjust the brake pedal independently. The problem is I can't figure out for the life of me how to disconnect the cable on either end. If anybody has any experience with these things or knows how to get this cable disconnected, I'm all ears.

2002 Lincoln Navigator, but Ford used the same adjustable pedal setup in a ton of different vehicles, F-series, Expedition, and Navigator alike (and some cars).

Did this address your issue to release the cable? I can look deeper on the Ford site if needed.

Yeah this looks like the factory service manual directly referencing the specific connector I'm after. I guess what I'm looking to learn is exactly HOW this is done. My big question now is whether the locking tabs are in the black part or there in the gray section. Also, what tool should I use? I bought these pliers thinking that this is what I'll have to do with the clips, so would you agree that this should be the right tool to get this connector separated?

That is what I would use, however be prepared for the tabs to break due to age. Are you willing to loose the power pedals, if they even work. I understand that you are not happy with the pedal spacing at this time. I have these in several Ford products, some still work and some do not. If they work they move both pedals at the same time. There is only one motor and cable for both pedals. Possibly your system has failed in a different way letting one pedal move without moving the other. I don’t know if that is even possible.

So the good news is that the pliers I got worked perfectly for the example pedal set/assembly that I had to look at. The bad news is that once I got under my dash to look at the pedals, the connector is completely different. Does anybody recognize the connector in the picture and know the correct tool and procedure to use to get this connector to release so I can unplug this cable?
