My cooler line is all sorts of seized in here and rounded. No luck with heat, atf/acetone, and vice grips… anyone have any luck getting one of these un-stuck?
What are you replacing? Is the nut seized to the line?, if so cut the line and replace it. Heat is always helpful along with some penetrating oil. Good line wrenches help a lot.
I’ve got one on the trans end (ZF6) that’s rounded off too. Idiots not using a flare wrench and over tightening. I’m going to attempt replacing both of them here shortly…shoulda done that when the trans came out for the clutch job.
You might just have to cut them them off and figure out a way to delete that cooling circuit. Or replace the entire rad and both lines would be how a shop would do it. If it’s an auto you don’t need that cooler anyway if you have a real air-cooled unit on the front. If it’s a ZF6 you don’t really need it either as most manual transmissions don’t have any external cooling but I probably would keep it by fixing it right.
Didn’t they make a 7.3 radiator that doesn’t have that cooler in the bottom? I briefly considered doing that and deleting the lines as they are a pain in the *** if you have to R&R the rad and they don’t like to seal very well either unless you really start reefing on it with a 16mm flare wrench to the point where it starts to make you cringe a little waiting for something to break. Crappy design.
