I have an 84 f150 and I recently swapped in power windows. After the install everything worked great but now a week later the passenger side can only be controlled with the switch on that side. The driver side switch (which has controls for both doors) only works to operate the driver side. This isn’t a big deal but it is annoying. My question is whether or not it is possible that only the one switch on the driver side is bad or if that isn’t the case then both should be bad and that it may be the wiring?
Yep
Pull the passenger door panel and hook a voltmeter to the 2 wires going to the motor and see if you have
voltage when you operate the driver side switch, up or down...
And the driver side switch is expensive .
Could not find one cheaper or one that would work in its place without modifying several things.
I believe they both have to be hooked up to work properly.
So,.... you might luck out and have a bad passenger switch that is way cheaper.!
Update: I checked and had power to all wires, however I did not have the rubber boot that goes between the door and cab seeing as my truck was originally a manual window truck. The wires were contacting the metal of the door and grounding out. I added some plastic insulation around the harnesses where they pass through the doors and I haven’t had any issues since! Thank you guys for the help and if anyone has issues with something similar doing this kind of swap make sure to check this
Thanks for the up date as it may help others.
As for that rubber boot I thought years ago someone was selling them?
Or was that for the door speaker wiring?
Maybe through LMC?
Guess the only others would be from a junk yard.
I dont remember what I did for my speaker wiring
