Hi all, I just pulled my old water pump due to a weep hole leak and found a decent amount of rust/corrosion on the pump itself and mating surface. Should this be a concern? The coolant (Xerex heavy duty extended life diesel ready, pink color) still looks brand new.
Seven years and ~20,000 miles ago when I bought the truck I pulled the pump off to replace the failed seal (put the same pump back on, just with a new seal) and everything looked much better. At that time, I flushed the system and switched from green coolant to the pink. Maybe this pink isn't compatible?
I remember reading on here some time ago that 99 MY trucks and possibly 2000 MY were not compatible with the extended life heavy duty pink coolant due to the compound of the injector cups, and that Ford still recommended coolant with the SCAs to avoid some sort of breakdown in the brass.
I’ve read that too, though I thought it was only for the 99 and older. I haven’t replaced the injectors, or had any issues with them, or really any thing else for that matter. Though the truck gets very little use.
