I never bought one. I have had very little issues with my truck. I have purchased one in the past and it was a total waste of money. It never seemed to be a part on there list of covered parts. I have about 85,000 miles and truck doesn't skip a beat. Do proper maintenance and you won't have any problems.
I bought the 125k miles / 8yr one when i bought my truck.
if i were to do over..I would not buy it
warranty appts are almost impossible to get in my area. you get an appt 30 days out, a week before the appt the call to reschedule for another 30 days out, cycle repeats until the 4th rescedule and you get told you are going on a some day list...somday we will call you. which never happens.
no point own extended warranties if the arent worth the paper they are printed on.
if I am in a jam, I have to take it to PA (live in NYC) and expect to drop it off for 1 week plus.

We have to consider the work being requested. A windshield replacement and brake job are two tasks not likely performed by a diesel technician.
My cousin is a Ford diesel tech and as of Easter his backlog was about 5 days. And not all the repairs to trucks require diesel techs. I've had alternator, compressor, condensor replaced not requiring a diesel tech. I will say if I purchased an extended warranty on my truck it would have been a waste of money, but that doesn't apply to every truck
They also now have a bunch of new trucks on the lot too.
The extended warranties are expensive but they do obligate Ford to fix your truck. With no warranty you need to find someone to do the work and that may not happen..Since major work involves removing the cab, many shops won't have the experience or facility to do that. When a breakdown happens, you need to know how to get the truck to a facility that will agree to do the repair, if you are away from home that may be next to impossible.
