Hi
My 1989 F250 5.8L EFI won't start and I can't figure out why. I'm hoping y'all can help me. I just finished replacing the engine with a rebuilt one. Checked the usual suspects such as fuel system and wiring and it all checks out. I can't seem to find anything wrong with it. The only thing I can think of is maybe the timing is severely off except that I set the base timing to the ford specs and it wont even catch. The only thing I have noticed out of the ordinary is what sounds like air poping from the throttle body when I turn it over. Both myself and my father have racked our brains for a few days and can't think of what we might have done wrong. Like I said, I checked the fuel system: both low and high pressure pumps, fuel tank switch, fuel filter, and all the lines. It's deffinitely getting fuel. I have also checked that the spark plug leads and the wiring harness are hooked up correctly, in good condition, and in working order. I just don't know. Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks.
You timed it at TDC on the COMPRESSION STROKE right? If you didn't pull the sparkplug or remove the valve cover to check for the compression stroke, then you have a 50:50 chance of being wrong.
I went to double check everything and discovered the distributor was just about seized. I've ordered a new one and will update after it gets here and I've rechecked everything.
OK
Sorry for taking so long, came down with a cold and wasn't able to work on the truck. Once the new distributor came in I rechecked the timing on the engine and it was in fact 180 degrees out. After re-timing and double checking everything she started right up and is running strong. Thanks so much for the help!
