I'm sure you've seen the other post about this truck, It's a 87 f350 custom 4x2 w/a 460 eng w/ stock holley 4180 carb and 5speed od trans. That dont start.
I can't get the darn thing started for the life of me it has a real strong spark. Today I was looking down into the carburator to see if it was getting fuel, I had someone crank the eng, and I did'nt see any fuel. But when I pulled back on the throttle lever the fuel was squirting out from the pump discharge nozzle had a nice steady stream, But no start. I also noticed! that when I pulled back on the throttle, fuel shot out of these 2 tiny holes on the carbs main body, on the left and right side of the airhorn in the front?
Can anyone tell why it is doing that? The power valve in the metering body was replaced and also, could the venturi tubes be clogged and thats why it's not feeding any fuel to the carb at idle?? and if they are clogged can I clean them or do I have to replace. Let know I need all the help I can get.
I'm no carb expert, but if you pump the gas and it squirts fuel and you have spark it should start, or at least try to. If it's not even trying to start I'd check timing. I didn't read your earlier post so I don't know what your up against, but It takes 3 things to make an engine run. Air, Fuel, Compression, OOPs forgot about that. Do you have compression? If so, check your timing.
I only checked the #1 plug hole for some compression with my finger and felt compression, Dont know what the psi is, but I'll have to get a gauge. It's got plenty of spark, nice and thick.
How many miles are on this engine? You may have a cam timing problem. I've seen engines wear enough for the chain to jump a tooth or two. Pull the valve cover and check #1cyl valve movement as timing mark approaches TDC. The other guys correct. Gas,spark and air and it should run. Maybe not very well, but at least it should try. Good luck.
