Introduction and a Short How To
I noticed the first evening I purchased the truck that the rear sliding window latch had fallen off but the PO had thrown it into the center console. Here’s how I re-attached it.
First thing I did was marked in pencil on the outside of the window the outline where the latch used to be.
Next scrape off the remaining glue with a razor blade. The glue was brittle and came off fairly easily.
Next wipe down the area on the glass with Acetone to remove any remaining residue. Repeat the procedure on the plastic latch until the glue is removed leaving a flat surface to apply the new glue to.
This is the glue I used off of Amazon.
Following the instructions on the package, apply the activator(the little blue bottle) to the window and to the back of the latch. Allow 5 minutes to dry and do not touch either surface. Finally, apply the glue to the back of the latch. There is enough glue in the bottle to completely cover the back of the latch. Carefully press the latch into place and hold for 1 minute. Allow 15 minutes to cure before closing the window. I allowed it to dry overnight before trying to open the window again. Here’s the finished product.
You can see I accidentally shifted the latch and spread a little glue to the underside so be careful when you press it to the window.
Heres a photo of my new(old) truck:
206,000 miles, 4x4 auto. PO put in a redhead steering box, moog ball joints and new tie rod ends, add a leaf leveling kit. Engine is completely stock, even still has the original air box and exhaust.
This post is getting a little long so I’ll probably make a new post to document any work and upgrades I do to the ol’ girl. Thanks for looking!
You have my favorite color combination for your paint scheme. I looked for almost a year for my truck and just could not find one like yours. Each time I see one like yours I think they look so sharp and clean.
Thanks for the how to! You have done an introduction right, that is for sure.
You brought a bit information about your truck, some pictures and a how to. That is like showing up for a party with a party! Where are you located roughly? From time to time FTE'rs have an opportunity to get together to enjoy each others company, chit chat and help with mechanical chores. Again, good to have you with us!
Of the stock wheel choices available, I really like the ones you have there.
That add-a-leaf does a great job of levelling, but firmed up the ride a bit too much on my last truck. I was amazed at the ride quality improvement when I removed them. I'm interested to see what you think of them.
I need to reattach my rear window latch for the second time.
Hope you have better luck with the rear mirror kit that I did.
Gonna use gorilla glue super glue next time.
Oh yeah that's a awesome front bumper on the truck too. Looks like an ARB?
Sous, I'm in the San Antonio area. The bumpers have no tags or markings on them anywhere so I'm not sure where they are from. The original owner was the grandfather of the young man that I bought the truck from. He apparently bought the truck new. There is evidence that either the original owner or his grandson was a welder and it is possible they were home built although I can't confirm that. The build quality on them is excellent.
I really like the color scheme as well and if/when I do decide to paint the truck I'll be sticking with the same colors. There are quite a few dings and dents, paint chips and clear coat cracks once you get up close, but from 10-20' it doesn't look bad for its age. If you look closely you can see that the bed and the cab are not quite the same color and the paint lines don't match up on the gold indicating the bed was replaced at some point. I didn't notice this until a few days after I purchased the truck, I must have been too excited to buy the thing! It bugs me but will have to stay the way it is for now. This truck will serve double duty as a work vehicle and personal daily driver so cosmetic items won't matter nearly as much as maintenance and mechanical repairs.
As for the wheels, I do like them and want to keep them since new wheels aren't in the budget at this point but they need a lot of work. I'm thinking about creating a new thread to document all of the things I do to the truck so I'll be doing updates there.
Thanks again yall and I'm glad to be part of this awesome community!

Got any goals as far as mods? Let us know and you'll get lots of ideas. My vote for first mod is Hutch and Harpoon.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I’m definitely going to consider the Hutch/Harpoon mod as soon as I run through the first tank of fuel. I’m curious what it looks like in that tank after 22 years.
As far as other mods I think the first thing is a better intake/filter. The stock air box is missing a tab and 2 of the 3 clips were not clipped when I got the truck. The rest of my time and money will be going to maintenance and fixing all of the minor issues. I also want to get forscan and a reader but I’m having trouble finding a decently priced Bluetooth adapter that also works with iOS.
In regards to your OBDII scan tool, the OBDLink MX+ is pretty much the gold standard, but not everyone wants to drop $100 on it...I recently purchased a Veepeak OBDCheck BLE for under $35 ( ) and can report that it works for my L99 with both my iPhone XS and 2020 iPad using FORScan. YMMV.

My vote is for the AIS if you’re not planning crazy hp mods. I love that intake. Clean factory look, great filtration, decent flow up to around 25psi. @ESwift has one that is almost new but shipping may be a killer.
Take a look at your turbo wheel. If the filter lid wasn’t sealing well then the wheel may be dusted. May as well do a shaft play check while in there for the look.
