Brake pads not going in clips/bracket

Doing my brake pads and rotors, one wheel I had no problems with. Next wheel I did everything correct, removed the bracket cleaned and greased it. But my pads don’t want to slip into the clips/bracket. What the hell is going on?

I literally had to lightly pound the pads into the bracket with a rubber mallet.

is this acceptable? Will it fix itself once I bleed the brakes? Or did I mess up? Am I misssing anything? Please help, I’m stumped. A few hour job is turning into a two day ordeal.

the pads are snug on the rotor, but they’re so snug the metal Y clip thing that you put in the holes isn’t causing the brakes to slip out as they should.

first photo: the angle the pad should go in and pop it but it won’t
second photo: how snug the first pad is after banging it in. With the inside pad doing the same thing, stuck at an angle having to be banged into the bracket.

Thats normal nowadays, manufacturing sucks.

sand/grind away the pads at the mounting surface and smooth out the bracket so they move freely but are snug and not loose

Usually I have the best luck starting the side away from the little spring clip then tap into the clip. Just tap it in, tap tap tap it in.

Both of the fellas above have great advice and the Happy Gilmore reference is a good one for this thread.

I too have struggled to get brake pads seated properly. Even with "high end" pads they seem to fit a bit tight.

You are making good progress on your project and familiarization with the brake system of your truck.

Another vote for grinding. Been having to do this for years.
