Balancer question

I have a 96 351 Windsor auto truck. I'm building a new engine for it and I would like to replace the balancer with something a little newer and nicer. Problem is I have the reluctor wheel pressed on my stock one that checks for misfires. If I unplug the sensor I get a CEL for random misfire. I have not found any newer ones with this reluctor wheel (crank trigger) or whatever you call it. Does anyone know if you can defeat the sensor, or can the wheel be transferred to the newer balancer? Thanks

Whatever you do, hold onto the original.. this is a one year part, I've never found a source for new.

You may be able to use a tuner to shut off the misfire detector code, but I have no first hand experience. There was a recent thread on the same topic where the OP was trying to get in touch with Damper Dr.(sp?) but got no response. These one year only balancers are rare. Take yours to a machine shop to see if they replicate the stator to mount on a new balancer.

Either path is going to take some detective work.
