Hey guys I just picked up a 250 460 big block for my son. It needs some work as you can Imagine. It has been in the shop waiting on parts (new steering box) for a week. I see these all over the I internet. Is there a good web site to get good after market parts for these trucks?
Do you want stock replacement parts or something else? There are upgraded steering gear companies like Redhead and Blue Top(?). Local parts stores should be able to get stock replacement parts. Online I use RockAuto, Summit Racing, Jegs…..
Don’t forget to check the intermediate shaft between the column and the steering gear for play.
I have seen the Redhead. Looks like a good one but was not sure it was beefed up but it sounds like it is. Thanks for all the info.
I keep being told by the shop that he is having a hard time getting parts. Just sounds odd because I can find parts all over but I think he has his preferred suppliers.
X2 on My4fordtrucks advice. Personally, I like blue top. There seems to be shortages on various parts everywhere, and shipping times have been very long the past year.
I'd stay the hell away from basic "rebuilt" boxes, and go with redhead or bluetop. I haven't seen a parts store rebuild steering box for anything in the last fifteen years that wasn't just garbage. Other than that, there's all kinds of places to get parts for OBS Fords, but everybody is having supply issues right now, you're just going to have to be patient.
