First 6.7

Well after several years with the 7.3 I have bought a 16 with the 6.7 and am hoping it will give as good service as I have gotten out of the 7.3
Not knowing much about the history of the new one I have already did the oil & filter, used the T6 & Motorcraft filter & plan to change fuel & air filters this week. Sometime soon I will do the coolant after finding out which coolant it needs. Truck did not have the owners manuel so I've got one ordered to try & get a handle on all the buttons & what not in the cab lol.
Will make the first pull with her this evening hauling daughter & couple horses to a barrel race in a 3 horse g neck trl looking forward to see how she pulls compared to the old truck.

Congrats. Day and night difference from your 2000. Have fun with it. Be really careful when you are adding DEF and do not be distracted from the process. Adding DEF to the fuel tank by accident will minimally cause you a lot of work, and at worst be a $10K mistake if driven.

Thanks bud, yep that DEF will be a new experience & I sure don't want any of the wrecks I've read about the fuel sys. I've always used the Diesel Service in the fuel but am wondering if I should try something else in this model

some use additives, some do not. its kinda like arguing religion. you should try to avoid the high alcohol ones because they reduce the lubricity of the fuel. Many do not use any additives.

As for filling DEF, what I do is leave my cell phone in the truck, so im not distracted, then remove the def fill cap on the truck before I even approach with the def. then at least I am not sitting there holding the bottle or at the truckstop fill pump, empty headed removing the fuel cap out of habit.

congrats

googling 6.7 problems / issues should bring you up to date on worst case senerios and common preventive.

so a 2016 would be out of warranty now....so proceed with cuation

more things to go wrong on a 6.7 vs earlier years, lots of technology

Good call on ordering the owners manual.

16's left the factory with Ford Orange coolant, and thats what the manual will call out, but Ford recently put out their new yellow coolant which is in the 20+ Super Duties, and they've said that its backwards compatibile with Ford Orange. so when you do get the coolant flush done, I'd recommend putting the new Yellow coolant in going forward. Its an extended life coolant, and doesnt require all the testing and maintenance like Ford Orange does.

Good luck with the new truck, It should treat you well.

I fill my def off cycle, never at the same time as fueling.

I prefer to use the bottles from wally world. I use the fill spout from Ford so as to not overfill the def.

You should get around 4500-5K per tank of def for your model year.

Hey senix do I have to get the fill spout from Ford by itself or could I just by a bottle from Ford & keep the spout for future use ?
Probably a dumb question but it's all new to me

BTW my owners packet & Ford mud flaps front & rear should arrive today or tomorrow

I have changed oil & filter, air filter & will do fuel filters today

Amazon brother...

Or the dealer I'm sure. The nozzle doesn't come with the Ford Motorcraft DEF bottle.

yes try amazon first. After each use, I rinse dry and put it in a gallon Ziploc and then it is ready for next use.

If around home I store it in the laundry room. On travel then under the rear seats.

Another tip on the def, some will agree, others won't.

I don't fill until I get the notification of <200 to empty. Keeps the system from being confused.

Haha... After reading this thread before, I went and added another bottle of DEF. I keep notes...

I usually like to check it further out like 3k to 4k miles but oh well...
