I want to do that soon. I will document the process and post it to my truck thread. I want those bearings ready for next winter when that extra weight of the plow will be on the front end of the truck.

I just looked on Riff Raff site & saw the fitting he sells to do the job but I wonder if it is really needed. I'm thinking I could get the grease in there with one of the syringes that I use to give my horses & cattle shots lol.

I will be looking forward to see how you go about the job. Myself have not fooled with any 4X4 stuff since I left Wyo in the early '80's when I had a rough riding '76 F2504X4

Took truck for alignment & got some bad news. The track bar ball joint was bad so had to replace that & the bushing on track bar to get aligned. Tech showed me what was bad & after repair all he needed to do was adjust tie-rod to get steering wheel centered. drives down the road nicely now & feels much better.

While there I got 5 gal of the VC-13-G yellow coolant for $17.57 a gal & will change coolant today.

I actually found out for Riff Raff that the openings in the later years bearings was the same as the older model years. It's on the forum here or in the 99 to 16 Super Duty section. They said whoever found out, they would send a free tool to. So they did...

But i saw a video on Youtube where the guy shows what he does. I'll find it and post it up.

That's good that you got that squared away. Don't want to be wearing tires.

When it's time for me, I'm going to switch to the new yellow as well.

Good for you bud, I had bought some of Riff-Raff stuff for my 7.3 & found him & Diesel O-Rings to be good folks to deal with.

I have kinda made a friend with the parts fella at Montrose Ford & thought he gave me a pretty good price for the yellow, he also quoted me a pretty good price on the LV trans fluid if I buy it by the box of 12. $77 and some change & they are only about 25 miles away from me & don't have to worry with shipping.

I ended up with about 1/2 gal of 50/50 mix out of the 5 gal I bought left. I had run tap water through 3 times, driving a short spell to reach op temp between each emptying. I was getting about 4 gal out with each drain from the primary & about 1 1/2 gal out of the sec. I then ran distilled water 2x the same way. When I last drained they both ran pretty clear. When I went to fill I figured there was close to 4 gal left in engine & heater & close to a gal in the sec. so I dumped 2 gal concentrate in the primary & about 3/4 gal in the sec then finished with a 50/50 mix. The trick to draining the sec is removing the hose off the bottom that runs to trans cooler (in case you didn't know), the drain petcock is in a helluva spot lol

Appreciate the tips. Thanks.

Was able to change the fluid in tranfer case today along with a new trans filter & refill. Had planned to flush trans taking off the return line off the trans cooler but that fitting did not want to play, had the correct tool & tried spraying some P B blaster in the fitting but gave up on it figuring I'd end up breaking something. I believe I'll do another drain & fill in a couple of weeks.

Trans fluid was pretty dark but still had some red color & didn't smell burnt or anything & the magnet was not gunked up too bad. The trans case fluid was pretty close to black so I was glad to get that done.

So far so good with this truck, knock on wood lol

Thanks bud

Hope you have a great trip to Montrose, just in case you might be like me & take some of the more scenic routes US 50 is going to be a mess for a couple of years between Gunnison & Montrose which is a doggone shame because it is a beautiful ride across the southern part of the state.

I have taken that route many times. Couple years ago they were working on portions of the road. Is that still the case? That is my planned route right now.

They are widening the road through the canyon & traffic is shut down for certain hours. You can look at cotrip.org for details.
I was talking to some folks from Gunnison at a barrel race Monday & they were telling me about the mess, I haven't been that way for awhile.

Was able to get the diffs serviced today. Boy did Ford cheap-out on that rear diff cover, I had straighten out the flange that was bent a little from where I drove the putty knife through the silicone sealant. I had put the alum cover off a 2008 on my 2000 when I serviced it & wish I had one to put on this one, maybe next time. As far as the fluid it still looked good & plenty of honey color left in it & was next to zero metal in the fluid or on the magnetic plug & I am pretty sure the cover had never been off before.

After seeing how good the fluid looked in the rear I decided to just suction pump the fluid from the front. There was nothing on the magnetic plug & the fluid looked real good. I ended up R&R 2 1/2 qts of fluid in the front & feel pretty good about that. While I was on the front I greased the u-joints going to the hubs & was surprised that each took a good 5 or 6 pumps of grease.

I believe the truck to be in pretty good shape & have a good idea on maintaining it now with 143k on the clock. Now I'm seriously looking into deleting it & seeing if I can get the same service out of it that my 7.3 is still providing.
