‘42 Truck - Newcomer from France
First, excuse me for my poor English level !
I already have other vintage cars and I bought this beautiful 42 Truck.
The frame, the drive trains and all mechanicals will be restore (I already have a 53 French Flathead ready to run) but the body will be untouched !
I did some work since I received it 2 weeks ago ! I disassemble the entire body and I have now to clean the frame and choose the solutions to drop front and rear.
Rear : reverse the support with shackle
Front : IFS Mustang II but I’m a little bit disappointed to choose the right one and the corresponding crossmember at Speedway.
Thé French Flathead which was installed in a French hot rod I had will be overhaul and repaint in blue Ford.
Ford f-1 , '48-'52. There is a lot of information online about the front suspension upgrade for these trucks.
Regarding the parts, I used to work with speedway for my other cars.
it seems Macsautoparts has a complete catalog !

i have now to select the right kit among all those proposed by Speedway or Macs !
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
Unfortunately, there was the only complete kit available on Macs site !
With Speedway, it’s more difficult because you have the choice between more than 5 kits and you have to select the crossmember separately. I’m still waiting for their feedback.
However I was confident, I was thinking the truck frames were identical from 1940 to 1947 regarding Vanpetsales.
Macs and Speedway are not your only options. There are many suppliers out there. I used a Jaguar xj6 front and rear on my pickup. There are probably some of those on your side of the pond.
On one hand, it’s now much clear for me. On the other I wouldn’t want it become more complicated !
I read some articles and there is indeed a lot IFS solution but I prefer to stay with the Mustang II because it’s a proven solution with assistance (I’m not so good in mechanic !) and also because it’s the most affordable and available solution in Europe.
