'66 F250 new heater box

Just rebuilt my F250 heater. My old box was a mess, it had been carved up for some reason. I finally found a new heater box at Toms Bronco Parts. They told me that it would not work on my truck, but I gave it a shot because it looked OK in their catalog. It works, but it is pricey! It's identical except there are four firewall mounting studs and a different pattern for the Bronco box vs three for the F250. My old plenum with three studs was still in good shape and is a perfect fit on the new heater box, so I used that. If you need the new plenum it's easy to drill out the new bolt pattern in the firewall to mount it and seal the old holes. My heater is a deluxe (Toms have both the basic and the deluxe boxes) and the defrost box lever is on the opposite side from my OE box, but the cables work just fine on it. Strangely the manufacturer assembled the box (with a riveted cover) with the defrost deflector mounted on the outside of the box instead of inside the defector channel! Someone doesn't understand how it works! Rather then send it back I drilled out the rivets, put the deflector where it belongs, reassembled and re-riveted. Buy the heater seal kit, it's easy to find from LMC and others. If you decide to replace your squirrel cage fan and go for the bigger high power wheel, get ready to do some work carving out the wheel opening and remounting the motor. You may need new seals for the motor mount, I made mine and works OK. Not sure the larger fan is worth the work to make it fit the box. My deluxe heater has a two speed fan.

This one? My blower motor has been making some noise and I have been looking for an alternative to provide more airflow.

Is the increase in airflow noticeable?

The poll doesn't have the "I'm an idiot and have no idea what the hell he's talking about" selection.

Good post - very helpful, I thought.

Just as an FYI - The 1965 F100/250 4WD, 1966 F250 4WD and I believe all 1961-1964 models used the 4 mounting studs through the firewall in a square pattern. I'm not positive if they are the same spacing/location as Bronco or not, but it should be easy to measure at least that much.

Pretty sure only the 1965/66 F100/250 2WD and 1966 F100 4WD used the 3 mounting studs in a triangular pattern on the firewall for the heater box.
