The last two times I have added DEF, had the same issue. I added another 2.5 gal DEF and message went away. Seems like if I wait 300 or so miles to add the first DEF, the level of DEF in the tank isn't enough to reset the message
Never have had any issues with my truck resetting the level indication whether I add a partial fill (less than 2.5 gallon), one jug (2.5 gallon) only when less than 1/2 full or when I get the count down and only add one jug or full fill.
I guess I have one of the lucky trucks as there have not been any problems with the power train that was not induced by Fastlane (Ford Oil Change Service) or myself (none yet). Fastlane did break the stops off both the cup and the DFCM. They never identified the problem to me during any oil change/fuel filter change. Ford did cover the replacing of the DFCM under the truck 5yr/60k power train warranty. Total repair bill was over $1,000 to replace the DFCM.
It should reset in time for the OP. The few times I had it come on I drove it and did multible shut downs and restarts. it finally turned off. This past trip across the usa of 80000 miles I kept it full as much as I could and no issue at all. Last time across usa it got down the light came on and took a while.. didn't want that again while 3000 miles from home..
Hi all a couple DEF questions since were on the subject
does anyone know do all trucks have the same size DEF tank?
also if I want to dump one 5 gallon jug in tank what should the gauge read?
previously I would top off when I changed the oil and would have extra left over
Unfortunately I don't know of any truck stops around with pumps
thanks in advance
The chassis/cab truck tank is approx 6 gallons and the 2011-2016 pickup is approx 5 gallon. They are shaped different and will not interchange.
Next, there is not a "gauge" in the tanks. There are sensor rods. With these 4 rods, the PCM computes the level and displays, DEF level Ok, DEF less than 1/2 full and then DEF is low before the 500 miles til reduce speed starts.
Most people do not top off the DEF until the indicator shows less than 1/2 full or the count down from 500 miles starts.
Many of us buy DEF from Wal Mart. Wal Mart brand is like $7.98 or less for 2.5 gallon. Many of use use the Ford DEF nozzle. You can get one at your local dealer for approx $6.00 to $7.00. It fits the DEF filler snug and prevents DEF spills on the paint. DEF is corrosive to paint.
thanks
it's been a while since i had to deal with DEF
I still have my fill nozzle from the old SD
maybe they were 2.5 gallon jugs I don't remember I use the FoMoCo stuff my dealer is good to me so I get most things from them
showing just over 1/2 tank maybe I can dump one jug for now
Thanks again for the info
DUH!....he was trying to by pass the warning without deleting. He stated he was out of town on a trip and it would be temp by pass.
Did you have to be a smart-a** in your comment? Maybe the OP will be motivated to get a delete if he wasn't considering it? I had a DEF sensor failure soon after I bought my used truck. Didn't take me long to schedule a delete.
