so my warning came up and said something like "refill, 900 miles to empty" right near 5000 miles. So I made an appointment for an oil change, and told them to put DEF in as well.
Well they got done right at closing, and when I jumped in, the warning still came up (I did see them put the fluid in), so I told them, and since I couldn't find a way to turn it off in the menu, they had the "mechanic" do it.
well he played around in the menu just like I did, and couldn't figure it out.
I have another appointment next friday for other issues, but if the message ends up reading 0 miles, will it go into limp mode, even if it has DEF in it???
Does anyone know how to reset that in the computer without taking it back to the dealer???
I saw the guy put a big jug (maybe 3 to 5 gallon size) in it, but message shows that the miles are still ticking. I just don't want to get stuck somewhere with this truck.
I have read on here that it has to be nearly full to reset the message. DEF commonly comes in 2.5 gallons, that is probably what you saw. He would have to add most of a second jug in to get the message reset.
Good luck.

Reason: typo
I haven't had any issues when filling mine up. I did it once when it said 800 miles to empty but since have been filling when it shows less than half full. The 800 miles to empty is an alert on my message console but the less than half full is something I have to proactively go out and see from my system / information menu functions. I have always filled it up sitting in my garage with the rig shut down. When I start it up and then check the system information screen, the screen correctly reflects the fluid I just put in. I have seen a lot of posting on this where some people have the same experience as me whereas others have to drive around or wait a period of time before the system acknowledges the fluid that was just put in.
My understanding is, it's a five gallon tank so in theory you shouldn't be at a point where you would be able to empty two 2.5gal jugs.
Pour slowly and listen.
If you have the Ford spout, then you won't be able to overfill but the 3rd party jugs aren't as sophisticated (Peak BlueDEF, etc.).
Buy a gallon jug of def at ford, yeah, pricey, use that jug and SAVE the spout. Rinse thoroughly after use, then use that spout with your Blue DEF from your auto parts dealer and, viola! no spills, no overfill! The Ford spout will last practically forever!
I got my message for 800 miles until DEF empty Friday. Today with 400 miles left until empty, I bought 5 gallons thinking it would take more than the 2.5 gallons to fill. I used the Blue DEF and JUST before the entire contents of the FIRST jug, it overflowed. So with 400 miles til the DEF tank is empty, it only takes 2.5 gallons...does this seem right?

nope
I got my 800 to empty message last week, ran two days, bought 5 gallons and put at least 4 gallons into the tank. I was at about 760 miles to empty when I filled.

Very similar situation happened to me on a trip once. I hit the 800 to E mark and poured in 1 gallon from a truck stop when I stopped. Nothing changed. Next fuel stop I bought a 2.5 jug and poured the whole thing in and nothing changed. I did make it to my destination before hitting the point where it limited me to 50mph. Took it to the dealer and they just swore up and down that it was simply empty. Long story short they ended up having to hook up to the main computer or something like that which indicated there actually was more DEF than what the gauge was thinking.
Ticket says something about retrieving code P207E Level showed 66.6% performed SCR refill road test. So basically I was over 50% and the truck never re-set itself. Huge pain in the rear when I was out of town so now as soon as I see message center say it's under 1/2 I fill it up.
