access panel on driver's side near dimmer swiitch
I'm try to remove the panel to the left of the dimmer switch held in by 4 large phillips screws. I'm installing sound deadner so I don't want to just cover it up. I'm having a hard time removing the last screw that's been on there for 40+ years. It looks like where a speaker would go. What's that panel for? What's behind it?

Nothing behind it. There is an optional vent that goes in that spot instead of the cover plate.

Trick for stubborn screws in sheet metal; seat screwdriver in the screw and tap it a few times on the end with a hammer. Should loosen it right up.

I used some PB-Blaster, tapped on it with a hammer and came back later and it came off.

If you have a panel you have AC, Non AC got you a vent as Brian said. If you take panel off clean out behind and below through it. Cowl drain.

X2 on fresh air vent. 1st pic see 02039? That is the hole and 02104 is the panel.

There are six screws, and yes, they are a real chore. But you really need to unbolt your emergency brake pedal from the firewall, in order to access the two screws you can't see.

Keep the screws as the are hard to find exactly like that. I always take these from JY and install on all my AC trucks regardless.
