2.3 Ecoboost it is....

The new Ranger has been introduced--I will go see it at the Detroit Auto Show next week. The only engine offered first year is the 2.3 Ecoboost. (See the Ranger forum for some pics and details).

Although I don't think it's mentioned in the linked article, Ford also put up a pic of the Ranger on FB and a Ford insider, replying to some guy who said they didn't want a Mexican Ranger, said that the Ranger and Bronco will be built in Wayne, MI and will have the 2.3 Ecoboost made in Cleveland as the only initial engine offering.

It does not take much speculation to understand that the Ranger and Bronco will share a great deal of mechanicals at least, since they will be built in the same factory and use the same chassis... Also 10 speed trans, and no way will they have solid axles on the front...

I for one am glad the Ranger will have a 4 cylinder EcoBoost. I wish there were Engine options the first year, but at least the 4 cylinder is a solid starting point for engines in the Ranger.

I think Ford is not excersizing sound judgement in offering SO MANY V6 engines in the F150. The Ranger should have no more than three engine options IMO.

I figured Ford would do something dumb like this. I guess a new Bronco with a 5.0 or 6.2 v8 and straight axles would be too reliable.

The Bronco is a compact but tough body-on-frame SUV based on the Ranger platform. It is roughly the size of an Edge and is not a medium-duty truck or heavy construction equipment. They don't put Cummins diesels or Hemi V8's in Jeep Wranglers either and in fact the new 2018-1/2 Wrangler offers a turbo 4 cylinder engine and the current 3.6 Pentastar V6.

The Expedition is the size vehicle that could accommodate the big engines, so your dreams of huge engines would make more sense for that truck. Or campaign for the reintroduction of the Excursion which was legitimately based on the SD trucks.

Real Broncos have V8s or a 300 I6 and are based off of a full size truck platform. Since the new one is based off of the Ranger it will be more like a Bronco 2.

Real Broncos were introduced in 1966 with a 170 inch six if you want to be historically accurate. But Ford owns the name and can do whatever they want with it.

The 1996 Bronco became the 1997 Expedition so there's your full size truck-based Bronco right there. (Same way the original full size Chevy Blazer is now the Tahoe.)

The Ranger used to be a trim line (like the Lariat) on Ford pickups. I owned a '78 F series with the Ranger trim package.

What is a Thunderbird? Look at that one over the years.

I’m glad I got my 17 F250 diesel now. I was going to hold out for the bronco thinking it was going to be like my 87 and 94 Eddie Bauer bronco’s just a retro high tech full size screamer. Thanks for the updates.
