My brother works at the Ranger plant in Minn. And is transfering back to chicago because Minn. plant is going to be shut down. With Fords financial woes here in North America Iwonder how much longer they will keep our belover little truck.
Yea, I heard a similar story, by 2010 I believe the ranger will be a no-go. It will just be massive trucks or small gas saver cars. Ranger parts will get more expensive
its still a good seller, and while everyone else has gotten a bit bigger, the ranger is stil a compact. as long as its making ford money, i bet they'll still build it. a bit dated, yes, out of date, never. i do wish they would give us a 4 cyl diesel though.
Hey racsan, you're probably right !!!! How many white Rangers do you see in use during the day doing commercial type jobs? Can't buy a compact pick-up from GM anymore...
Both my vehicles are rumored to be dying! As said, as long as the Ranger is selling okay, it will continue. With gas prices they way they are currently, 29mpg sounds good to a lot of people. Think the Ranger is dated? Think the Mustang was dated? Try my Crown Vic. The Panther Platform has been used since '79. Last redesign was in 1998, extremely little has changed since then except for Rack + Pinion in 2003. Finally got a new instrument cluster this year, but it is basically the same as the old one (used since '92) with the exception of a tachometer.
Isn't there a Ranger plant in New Jersey??? Thought I read that somewhere...
Yeah, they make them back there. I had to fly back to get mine and drive it 3200 miles home. The dash was changed to the current one back in 95; the gauge cluster was revised in 04. I guess the oil pressure (idiot) gauge and the voltmeter were just "too extravagant/luxurious" to continue to offer, despite the commanding price on the FX4 Level 2 ........ Ditto on deleting the glove box light, cargo light, and the light under the hood. for the rest of the level 2 goodies .

mph has also reported that one of their ford moles had heard that cancellation of the ranger was nearing completion. their estimate was that the 2008 model year would be the last.
it looks like we're going to have yet another midsize on our hands. what's wrong with a compact pickup? if i wanted a fullsize, i'd buy a stripper f-150. looks like the ranger will be returning to its roots and will become something like an f100 again.
if these rumors are true, then the only compact pickup available will be the upcoming jeep gladiator (if it gets production approval).
If Ford kills the ranger, I will be EXTREMELY mad. this truck is one of my favorite things from Ford. people like the idea of a truck, yet 26+mpg from the same truck too.
Hmmm, so if Ford kills the Ranger line then I wonder if Ford will produce a mid size model to compete with the Dakota and the tundra.
That's the thing. Right now, there are no indications - not even rumors - that Ford has anything else in the works regarding the small-to-midsize pickup truck market. You'd think there would at least be a few tidbits of information to chew on at this point.
Well from what I have read and heard is that Ford probably won't kill off the Ranger they still have competition from Chevy Colorado and the Dodge Dakota and the Mistsubishi Raider (Same as Dakota just rebadged). I predict a Diesel by 2009 or 2010 it will take a import company like Toyota or Nissan to come first. It'll come.
